We’ve gone with various themes for our MLB prop bets this week, and we’re sticking with that. Thursday, we’re focused exclusively on pitchers. After looking at today’s starting pitchers, we didn’t find many hitters with a long track record of success against them. That doesn’t mean we’re favoring all of these pitchers, just that we’re targeting them with our prop bets. For the odds, we used Caesars Sportsbook, which is giving new users up to $1,000 back in bonus bets if they lose their first wager.

We like what Cortes has done this season, although his strikeout totals have been a little inconsistent. He’s been limited to four strikeouts or less in two of his last three starts. The lefty also hasn’t gone particularly deep in his last few starts, so there are fewer chances for him to rack up a high strikeout total. Keep in mind the Royals are one of the toughest teams in the majors to strike out. That made us want to take the plus odds that Cortes won’t tally a lot of strikeouts in Kansas City.

If you haven’t been following the Pirates closely this year, you may not have noticed that Keller is having a breakout season. He’s 8-3 with a 3.16 ERA. Also, since the beginning of May, he’s allowed two runs or less in six straight starts. Keller has actually pitched at least six innings in each of those starts, including a complete game. He’s still getting close to even odds on allowing two earned runs or less. This is for a day game against the Cardinals, who aren’t all that impressive offensively. We’ll happily get behind Keller to have another good outing on Thursday.

This game has pitcher’s duel written all over it. Nola, in particular, has been brilliant lately. He’s coming off seven scoreless innings against the Brewers and has helped the Phillies go 11-2 in his starts. As for his strikeout total, Nola has reached at least five strikeouts in seven straight starts and nine of his last 10 starts. Obviously, we need him to get over the hump and reach at least six strikeouts. The point is that he’s always in the vicinity of six strikeouts, and since the Red Sox have one of the highest strikeout rates in the majors, Nola is bound to get at least six.
Houck is the other half of this pitcher’s duel. He’s held opposing teams to two runs or less in five straight starts with Boston winning in his last four starts. With his 1.91 ERA, Houck should have an over/under of two earned runs. With the Phillies being one of the best offensive teams in the big leagues, Houck is getting a little leeway. He doesn’t need much leeway with the way he’s pitched this year. But we’ll take it anyway, especially since he has nearly even odds to limit the Phillies to two runs or less.

Crochet has been easy to overlook on the White Sox this year, but he’s actually been a bright spot in Chicago. More importantly, he ranks second in the big leagues in strikeouts, already racking up 103 Ks in just 75.2 innings. The lefty has hit double digits in strikeouts four times this year, including three of his last six starts. With Crochet reaching at least eight strikeouts in three straight starts and Seattle leading the league in strikeouts, we had to give this prop bet a shot.
