Best MLB Prop Bets 2024 05 16

On Wednesday, we finally got back to turning a profit by hitting three of our five MLB prop bets. But now comes the challenge of finding prop bets on a day with a shortened schedule. Therefore, we decided to focus most of our attention on one game. We found value elsewhere, but most of our picks involve the Mets and the Phillies. The odds for all of our wagers are from DraftKings Sportsbook, which is giving new users $200 worth of bonus bets when they sign up and place an initial bet of $5.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Mets vs. Phillies (6:40 PM, EST)

Jose Quintana Under 16.5 Outs Recorded (-125) at DraftKings

Toward the end of April, Quintana threw eight brilliant innings against the Cardinals. But it’s been a struggle for him otherwise. In four of his last five starts, he’s failed to go beyond five innings. In a road game in a hitter-friendly park against a red-hot Philly team, that trend is likely to continue. Given some of his struggles lately, the Mets aren’t likely to push the envelope with Quintana too much. They’ll be satisfied if they can get five solid innings from him, which is why we like the under for this bet.

Alec Bohm Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110) at DraftKings

Bohm has solid numbers against Quintana, going 3 for 11 with a double and a homer. He’s also been one of the best hitters in baseball this year. Since April 15, he’s had just two games in which he didn't record a hit. Bohm has recorded multiple bases in four of his last six games and has been even better against left-handed pitching than his overall numbers. That makes us confident that he’ll collect multiple hits or have an extra-base hit against Quintana.

J.D. Martinez Over 1.5 Total Bases (+135) at DraftKings

After signing late and getting off to a sluggish start, Martinez has started to heat up. He has five hits, including three extra-base hits over the first three games of this series with the Phillies. Martinez also has four extra-base hits in his last five games, so his power is coming around. Most importantly, he has unreal career numbers against Philadelphia starter Taijuan Walker, going 7 for 14 with a double and a homer. Those numbers are too good to ignore, which is why we’re getting behind Martinez to keep slugging on Thursday.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Rays vs. Red Sox (7:10 PM, EST)

Zack Littell Over 5.5 Hits Allowed (-135) at DraftKings

This is just the third time this season that Littell is pitching on regular rest. On both occasions, he’s allowed at least six hits, including a game against the Tigers in which he gave up nine hits. In fact, Littell has given up at least six hits in five of his last six outings. That’s a consistent trend for him, which is why we have to bet on this continuing. Boston’s lineup isn't quite at full strength at the moment, but the Red Sox have more than enough quality hitters to rack up half a dozen hits against Littell.

Best MLB Prop Bets Today: Athletics vs. Astros (8:10 PM, EST)

Seth Brown Under 0.5 Hits (+120) at DraftKings

We don’t typically bet on a player to go hitless because there isn’t much margin for error. However, Brown has been particularly bad this season, hitting just .179. During the month of May, he’s batting just .130 and has three total hits. In his career against Houston starter Cristian Javier, Brown is just 2 for 15 with six strikeouts. That’s enough to convince us that taking plus odds on a .179 hitter to go hitless on Thursday.
