The Phillies stunned the league on Saturday with a 3-0 win over the Braves. We saw the Phillies pitching staff be electric, while the Braves offense failed to get going. While we don’t expect Atlanta’s offense struggles to continue, they will face an opposing pitcher who has been stellar against them at Truist Park this year. The Phillies offense will also face a test against a Braves’ starter that shut them down last month. Add that together, and you get a recipe for a low-scoring battle tonight.
The Braves will face a familiar foe tonight with Zack Wheeler (13-6, 3.61 ERA) on the mound for the Phillies. The righty has been good for Philadelphia all season, but he has been at his absolute best when starting in Atlanta. The veteran faced the Braves twice at Truist Park, allowing one run on six hits over 14 innings. That is going to give Wheeler a lot of confidence tonight, and it will likely result in another excellent road outing.
Atlanta will send 29-year-old Max Fried (8-1, 2.55 ERA) to take on the Phillies in Game 2 of this series. The lefty finished the season red-hot, posting a 3-0 record and 1.50 ERA in four September starts. One of those came against Philadelphia, who he held to one run over five innings. We love his chances to deliver another great start tonight, especially considering Fried has pitched in the postseason the past five seasons.

The Diamondbacks have been playing better than almost anyone else this postseason, but that will end tonight. Their upset win in Game 1 was impressive, but some of that can be chalked up to the Dodgers being off for almost an entire week. The D-backs also had the advantage of facing Clayton Kershaw, whose legendary career has been plagued by October struggles. While Arizona has the edge in tonight’s pitching matchup on paper, we don’t see those numbers telling the whole story, leading us to take the Dodgers’ moneyline tonight.
Arizona will send their ace to the mound tonight, Zac Gallen (17-9, 3.47 ERA). The righty has had another fantastic season, but he will have his hands full in this one. The righty will be up against one of the best offenses in the league. Gallen has not fared well against their division rival in 2023, especially on the road. In his two starts in LA this season, he has allowed 11 earned runs on 15 hits across ten innings. Given that the Dodgers' offense had a wake-up call on Saturday, we think they will bounce back to dominate Gallen again in this crucial playoff matchup.
The Dodgers will have a rookie on the mound in Bobby Miller (11-4, 3.76 ERA). The 24-year-old was called up earlier this season and has been a vital part of this rotation since. He has been especially sharp lately, allowing just four runs over his previous three starts. Miller posted a 3.00 ERA across two starts against Arizona, which should be good enough to get the win tonight. Look for Miller to be good enough to support a big night from this LA offense.
