Our first best bet in Major League Baseball for this weekend is on the early matchup in Toronto between the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays are slight favorites going into this contest, but there are legitimate questions as to whether or not they should be. Instead, it may be worth taking a pass at the Angels as moneyline dogs, against one of the worst pitchers in all of baseball this season.
Alek Manoah is starting this game for Toronto, as he enters this contest with a 2-8 record and a 6.10 ERA. He had a strong first start back in the majors after being sent down to the minor leagues for a month, but that was against the lowly Detroit Tigers. Since then, Manoah has given up seven runs in his last two starts, and he should have trouble here against an Angels team that does have some pop in their lineup.
Of course, much of that pop is from the incomparable Shohei Ohtani, who hit three home runs in three at-bats between yesterday’s game and Thursday’s game for Los Angeles. Ohtani will serve as a huge threat for the Angels in this game, against a pitcher in Manoah who has allowed 13 home runs in 72.1 innings of work.

On Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates will continue their all-Pennsylvania series from PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Philadelphia won the first game of this series by a margin of 2-1. Here, the Phillies should once again have the upper hand over the Pirates, as we expect Philly to cover the runline by taking advantage of the pitching matchup in this contest.
The Phillies have a sizable advantage on the mound in this game, as Aaron Nola is set to take the bump for them. He enters this game with a 9-6 record and a 4.25 ERA, which compares favorably to that of Quinn Priester, who has a 1-1 record and a sky-high 9.28 ERA. Look for Nola and the Phillies to get an early advantage on Priester and for the Phillies to win this contest by at least two runs.

Our final MLB best bet for the weekend comes in the biggest series of the weekend, as the Houston Astros host the Tampa Bay Rays once again. Tampa claimed the first game of this series in Houston, winning that game by a 4-3 margin. And the final two games of this series could go the way of the Rays as well, including this series finale on Sunday afternoon.
Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to pitch for the Rays in this game, which should give them a sizable advantage over the Astros. Glasnow is just 4-3 on the season, but he comes into this game with a slim 3.36 ERA. He has allowed just one earned run in three of his last four starts, and he will continue to pitch well here en route to a win for the Rays.
