Best MLB Player Props August 29 2023

On Tuesday, several games with postseason implications will take place on the diamond in Major League Baseball. From key games in division races to games that will have an impact on home-field advantage, there are numerous games worth keeping an eye on. Some of those games, along with one game without any larger implications, comprise today’s MLB best bets.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs

  • Time: 8:05 PM ET
  • Starting Pitchers: Corbin Burnes vs Justin Steele
  • Moneyline: Brewers (+110) | Cubs (-130)
  • Runline: Brewers +1.5 (-192) | Cubs -1.5 (+160)
  • Total: Over 7 (-105) | Under 7 (-115)

My Pick: Under 7 (-115)

The first of our MLB best bets for Tuesday is for there to be a low-scoring game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs. With Chicago still looking to hang around in the NL Central race, and both teams currently occupying playoff spots, there is sure to be a ton of intensity throughout this matchup. Combine that with an elite pitching matchup, and there should be very little scoring in this contest.

On the Chicago side, NL Cy Young contender Justin Steele is on the mound for this contest, while Corbin Burnes gets the start for Milwaukee. Both of these pitchers have winning records, while Steele has been especially impressive between these two. Look for both of these pitchers to continue to deliver at high levels to help this game stay under the seven-run total.

Also helping this game to stay under the total will be the anemic offense of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew rank 18th in the league in runs scored this season, despite their status as the number one team in the NL Central. Look for Steele to shut them down, and for Burnes to hold the Cubs offense in check as well.

Atlanta Braves vs Colorado Rockies

My Pick: Over 12 (-115)

After taking the under in the game between the Cubs and Brewers, look for more runs to be scored in Colorado. The Atlanta Braves will visit the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night, with much higher expectations for the offenses in this matchup. While 12 runs is a high total to clear, the Braves should be more than capable of helping this game to get to that point at Coors Field.

Atlanta should be able to tee off on Rockies starter Peter Lambert, who enters this game with a 3-4 record and a 4.92 ERA. He has allowed 14 home runs in his 71.1 innings of work so far this season. Look for the Braves to hit for power in this contest against a starting pitcher that has been vulnerable to giving up home runs this year, which will help us get close to the over heading into the later innings.

Also worth noting is the fact that there is still some motivation for the Braves to perform at a high level. On a team level, they are just a few games ahead of the LA Dodgers for the top spot in the National League. And individually, there are multiple Braves who are looking to beat Mookie Betts of the Dodgers for the NL MVP award, so we should see plenty of standout performances individually.

New York Yankees vs Detroit Tigers

  • Time: 6:40 PM ET
  • Starting Pitchers: Michael King vs Tarik Skubal
  • Moneyline: Yankees (+102) | Tigers (-122)
  • Runline: Yankees +1.5 (-198) | Tigers -1.5 (+164)
  • Total: Over 8.5 (-102) | Under 8.5 (-118)

My Pick: Tigers Moneyline (-122)

Our final best bet on the diamond for Tuesday will come in a game featuring two teams that are all but out of postseason contention. The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers have been disappointing this season, with the Yankees being one of the league’s biggest letdowns. Here, their misery should continue against a young Tigers team that is looking to build toward the future.

Neither starting pitcher really stands out going into this game. Michael King and Tarik Skubal have not been terrible in what action they have received so far this season. But the fact that the Tigers are favorites going into this game despite the power at the top of the Yankees lineup is very telling. Look for the Tigers to get a victory to even this four-game series at a game apiece.
