Best MLB Prop Bets Today 04 02 2024

Another week, another chance to fade Cardinals' starter Miles Mikolas. The veteran has notably regressed over the last two seasons and is off to another brutal start. We’ll cash in on his struggles as he faces a dangerous Phillies lineup. We’ll share our pick for the game below and two other bets we are locking in this weekend.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (8:10 PM, EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Brewers +1.5 (-135) +150 Over 9 (-105)
Diamondbacks -1.5 (+115) -178 Under 9 (-115)

Brewers ML (+150) at Caesars Sportsbook

This is a fantastic price for an underrated Brewers team. After a brutal start, the team has begun to heat up on the mound and at the plate. The team comes into Phoenix after outsourcing the Rockies 26-10, thanks partly to the hot bats of Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich.

Expect the Brewers to stay hot against a familiar face tonight in Corbin Burnes. Arizona signed the former Milwaukee ace during the offseason but has struggled to adjust to his new team. He is coming off an ugly start against the Nats, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings.

Burnes struggles to find his control, with seven walks and 11 hits allowed over just 9 ⅓ innings of work. Those struggles allowed a bad Washington team to beat him up, and we’ll see a similar scene play out against a far better Brewers lineup tonight.

You may not know Brewers' starter Chad Patrick, but he is making a name for himself lately. He has made two starts this season and allowed just one run over 10 innings. Walks have been an issue, but he has only allowed five hits during those starts. Arizona will struggle as they face the 26-year-old for the first time before facing a great Brewers bullpen.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals (2:15 PM, EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Phillies -1.5 (-105) -170 Over 8 (-105)
Cardinals +1.5 (-140) +143 Under 8 (-1115)

Over 8 (-105) at Caesars Sportsbook

When Miles Mikolas is on the mound, a lot of runs are going to score. The 36-year-old is off to another horrendous start, going 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across eight innings. The Philies' bats have cooled a bit of late, but they will hammer Mikolas hard and often this afternoon. Look for Bryce Harper to lead the way, as he owns a 1.071 OPS in 28 at-bats against the starter.

Mikolas will be starting at home tonight, but that hasn’t helped him over the last two seasons. The righty has posted a home ERA around 1.50 higher than on the road. That is a startling difference, and the length of that trend suggests it won’t change in 2025.

The St. Louis lineup has been overperforming in 2025, posting the fourth-highest team OPS (.703) in the league. Phillies' starter Cristopher Sanchez is talented but far from untouchable. Expect the Cards to tag him for 2-3 runs, which will be plenty to cover this total and cash in on the favorable price.

Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins (4:10 PM, EST)

Run Line Spread Moneyline Total
Nationals +1.5 (-170) +130 Over 7.5 (-115)
Marlins -1.5 (+143) -155 Under 7.5 (-105)

Nationals ML (+122) at Caesars Sportsbook

This is our favorite bet of the weekend. These are the two worst teams in the NL East, but we like the Nationals far more than the Marlins. The primary reason for that is the lineup, which owns the tenth-highest team OPS (.722) in baseball.

The Nationals have several excellent young hitting prospects in their lineup, but none has looked better than left fielder James Wood. The 22-year-old had a solid rookie campaign in 79 games last season and looks even better in 2024. He is giving the Nationals some power, already posting four home runs after hitting just nine last season.

Wood and Washington will need to face Marlins’ ace Sandy Alcantara. The question is which version they will see. The veteran had become one of the top pitchers in the league but missed all of 2024 after needing Tommy John surgery for a torn UCL. He struggled a bit in his first start but looked better last week against the Mets.

It's possible that Alcantara is settling in, but don’t count on him lasting long in this game. The Marlins have the star on a pitch count, meaning he’ll only last about five innings if he pitches well.

Washington will have Trevor Williams starting opposite Alcantara. The 32-year-old had the best season of his career in 2024, but injuries limited him to 13 starts. He hasn’t looked quite as sharp to start 2025, but that will change today against a Marlins team he had a 1.80 ERA against last season.
