Run Line | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Rockies | +1.5 (-125) | +170 | Over 7.5 (-120) |
Rays | -1.5 (+105) | -205 | Under 7.5 (+100) |
Not a great price for this run line, but it is one of the safest bets of the day. One big reason for that is the pitching matchup.
Ryan Pepiot will be on the mound for Tampa tonight. The 27-year-old was terrible for last season's first half but vastly improved starting in July. While he was hit with injuries, the righty posted a 2.63 ERA over his final 12 starts of the season.
Pepiot faced the Rockies once last season in Colorado, striking out 11 while holding them scoreless over six innings.
Kyle Freeland was horrendous last season, finishing with a 5.24 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. The regression shows no signs of turning around in spring training, where the veteran’s struggles continued. While this game won’t be played in hitter-friendly Coors Field, Freeland was worse on the road last season, meaning the lack of altitude isn’t helping.
Tampa’s offense isn’t going to turn any heads this season, but expect to see them hammer the ball against Freeland tonight.

Red Sox | -1.5 (+143) | -115 | Over 8.5 (-115) |
Rangers | +1.5 (-170) | -105 | Under 8.5 (-105) |
Jack Leiter will remind us why he is one of the league’s top pitching prospects tonight. The 24-year-old debuted for the Rangers last season and struggled badly. It was clear he wasn’t ready, but Texas let him make six starts over the season's final month. That gave the young hurler solid experience while we glimpsed flashes of the talent that has league experts so excited.
Tanner Houck was excellent for the Red Sox last season and is a key piece of their rotation. As impressive as he was, the righty was hammered by the Rangers. He allowed 14 hits and eight runs across two starts (11 ⅔ innings). We like this Texas lineup with their young talent and newly acquired Joc Pederson.
The Rangers lost the opener thanks to closer Luke Jackson melting down on the mound to allow three runs in the top of the ninth. Before he entered the game, the Red Sox lineup managed just four hits over eight innings.
The Rangers won’t bail the Sox out again tonight, leading to the team’s first win of the season.

---|---|---|---|
Mets | +1.5 (-170) | +118 | Over 8 (-110) |
Astros | -1.5 (+143) | -140 | Under 8 (-110) |
The Astros sealed a close win last night behind a stellar start from Framber Valdez, but we see an easier win coming tonight.
We loved what we saw from Hunter Brown last season. After a brutal April, the 26-year-old broke out to become a critical piece of this Astros rotation. He posted significantly lower ERA and WHIP totals and is expected to take another step forward this season. Brown also was fantastic in his sole playoff start, allowing just one run and striking out nine over 5 ⅔ innings.
The Mets beat Brown up the last time they faced him, almost two years ago. They will face a different pitcher tonight, and he will be looking for payback.
Houston’s lineup is top-heavy, but they have enough to take advantage of a pitcher like Tylor Megill. The 29-year-old has never finished a season with a sub-4.00 ERA and has a career WHIP of 1.39. The starter was solid in spring training, but don’t count on that until the regular season.
The Astros’ offense will be able to hit Megill, supporting a strong start from Hunter Brown, similar to their win last night.
