Best MLB Bets Today: Brewers vs. Cardinals (2:15 PM EST)

Brewers ML (-118) at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Cardinals’ run with Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt has come to a crashing halt in 2024. Both players continue to struggle badly at the plate, leading to the team scoring the seventh fewest runs in the league. They have struggled to put up more than two runs over the last couple of weeks, and we expect that to continue tonight.

In addition to their aging offense, St. Louis has seen rotation staple Miles Mikolas (8-10, 5.41 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) have the worst season of his career. The 25-year-old has seen the Brewers plenty throughout his career, and the results haven’t been pretty. The Crew owns a .295 batting average and a .500 slugging percentage against Mikolas.

The Brewers have been the far better team despite having fewer stars. They haven’t missed a beat since Christian Yelich’s season-ending injury, continuing to rank in the top ten of the league in batting average and runs scored. That is mainly due to 20-year-old rookie Jackson Churio, who has been a star for the team since June, putting him on pace for a 20-20 season.

Freddy Peralta (8-7, 4.00 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) has disappointed the Crew this season but is set up for success tonight. The righty had been on a cold streak but broke out in his last start to allow one run over six innings against the Guardians. That is a good sign as he gets ready to face a Cardinals team that he has posted a 2.25 ERA against this season (12 innings).

On top of having Freddy on the mound, the Brewers bullpen is also healthy. Devin Williams is back to being one of the league’s best closers, while setup man Trevor MeGill was reinstated from the IL on Tuesday. That makes the back of their bullpen elite once again, giving us all the confidence we need to lock this bet in.

Best MLB Bets Today: Astros vs. Orioles (7:15 PM EST)

Astros ML (+142) at FanDuel Sportsbook

This price is too good to pass up for a vastly improved Astros team. While they lost a series to Boston to open the week, they have won 11 of their previous 14 games. While they are up against a great Orioles team tonight, Houston has the edge.

The reason for the attractive price is tonight’s pitching matchup. The Astros will send rookie Spencer Arrighetti (5-11, 5.20 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) out to the mound against Baltimore. The rookie’s numbers are atrocious, but he has been far better since July 7, posting an ERA of 3.71.

Arrighetti is coming off a disappointing start against the White Sox, but he delivered three consecutive quality starts before that. That includes games against the Dodgers and Red Sox, showing the young pitcher can deliver against the league’s best hitters.

The Orioles will have ace Corbin Burnes (12-5, 3.10 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) starting opposite the Astros’ rookie. While he is once again in the Cy Young Award conversation, he has been hammered across three starts this month. He has an ERA of 9.00 during the cold streak, all of which came against lineups far worse than what he will face tonight.

The Astros will do damage against Burnes tonight, and Arrighetti will do enough to give the bullpen a lead. That should be enough for the Astros to get the win, considering their bullpen has the fourth lowest ERA in the league.
