The Braves swept a two-game series against the Giants to open the week, but they have been losing many games lately. Given their disadvantage on the mound tonight, we expect the Giants to get some payback.
Atlanta will have Max Fried (7-6, 3.56 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) starting against the Giants tonight. The 30-year-old was fantastic over the first couple of months of the season but has come apart since July 1. He owns a 6.72 ERA during that span, with the Braves losing three of his four starts.
Fried will have his hands full against a Giants’ team that has been winning a lot of games since the All-Star break. While they rank around the middle of the pack in batting average and runs scored, they have been seeing the ball well. A big reason for their improved play is shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald (.305 BA, 13 HR, 25 RBI), who has a .331 batting average, 12 home runs, 21 RBIs, and six stolen bases since July 1.
The Giants will have Logan Webb (10-8, 3.32 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) starting opposite Fried tonight. The 27-year-old is having another great season for the team and has been near-perfect over his last three starts. He has allowed just two runs on 13 hits over 21.2 innings, winning all three games.
While the Braves have plenty of talented bats, they have not been the same force that they were last year. The absence of Ronald Acuna Jr. has had a significant effect, leading to Atlanta ranking twentieth in runs scored and seventeenth in batting average.

This matchup features two teams trending in very different directions. The Twins have been winning a lot since the All-Star break and now sit just four games out of the AL Central lead. Conversely, the Texas Rangers have won just four games since July 26 and seem destined to miss the playoffs after winning the 2023 World Series.
The Twins will have Bailey Over (12-5, 3.52 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) on the bump tonight. The veteran has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the summer, going 7-2 with a 2.41 ERA since June 1. He is coming off one of his best starts of the season, where he held a very good Guardians team scoreless over six innings, allowing just two hits and two walks.
As much talent as the Rangers have in their lineup, they have disappointed in a big way this season. They rank twentieth in batting average and nineteenth in runs scored. They were able to do a little damage against Ober in May, but they and Ober have changed a lot since then.
The Rangers will have Cody Bradford (4-0, 3.60 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) starting against Minnesota tonight. The 26-year-old was incredible to begin the season but landed on the IL from mid-April until late July. Results have been mixed since his return as he was shelled by the Cards and Red Sox but was sharp against the Yankees.
While the Twins have not seen Bradford before, that won’t be a problem. Opponents are hitting him hard the first time they see him, posting a solid .264 batting average. Considering how well the Twins have been playing at the plate, we expect the young pitcher to struggle mightily.
