Best MLB Bets Today: Padres vs. Pirates (6:40 PM EST)

Padres -1.5 (+115) at Caesars Sportsbook

Nobody has been hotter than the San Diego Padres since the All-Star break. The team has won each series since then and will add to that total tonight.

The Padres will have a significant advantage on the mound with Michael King (9-6, 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) starting. The veteran has been great in his first full-time starter's season and has a 2.32 ERA since June 1. He has allowed more than two runs just once since May 23, and we don’t see that changing tonight.

King has done some of his best work on the road this season, going 8-2 with a 2.62 ERA. That is bad news for the Pirates, who rank twenty-fifth in batting average and twenty-first in runs scored. While their lineup has a few dangerous hitters, they don’t have the depth to produce consistently.

The Pirates will have Marco Gonzales (1-1, 3.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) making the start tonight. The veteran missed over two months of the season on the IL and has struggled since returning, posting a 5.25 ERA across three starts. The lefty’s best days seem to be behind them, and we expect that to show against the Padres tonight.

Gonzales will face a Padres lineup swinging the bat well. The Padres now lead the league in batting average while ranking tenth in runs scored. They have a .278 batting average against Gonzales in 54 at-bats, a number that will rise after tonight’s start.

Best MLB Bets Today: Tigers vs. Mariners (9:40 PM EST)

Under 6.5 (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

This is a very low total, but tonight’s pitching matchup has us locking in the under.

On one side will be Tigers ace Tarik Skubal (12-4, 2.57 ERA, 0.95 WHIP). The 27-year-old has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, ranking fourth in wins, second in ERA and WHIP, and third in strikeouts. While he is coming off an ugly start, Skubal hasn’t allowed more than three since June 19.

While Skubal’s last outing was ugly, he’ll face a more manageable challenge tonight against the Mariners. Seattle ranks twenty-ninth in batting average and twenty-seventh in runs scored. While their lineup was upgraded at the deadline, the team remains without Julio Rodriguez, their most dangerous hitter.

The Mariners will also have one of the league’s top starters on the mound in George Kirby (8-7, 3.04 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). The young righty is having the best season of his young career and has been especially great over the last two months. He has an ERA of 2.01 since June 1 and has allowed more than two runs just once.

Detroit has been better at the plate than Seattle this season, but that isn’t staying much. They rank twenty-seventh in batting average and twentieth in runs scored. Things have been especially bad on the road, where they are batting just .226 with an OBP of .286.
