This is one of our favorite bets of the week, thanks to the pitching matchup. The Padres will be starting Dylan Cease (7-6, 3.84 ERA), who has been fantastic since joining the Padres. However, June was not kind to the 28-year-old. Cease posted a 4.94 ERA as good lineups hammered him. That number would have been higher had he not also had starts against the A’s and Nationals.
While the Rangers are not the offensive powerhouse they were during last season’s World Series campaign, they still have a ton of talent. That includes rookie Wyatt Langford (.260 BA, 4 HR, 35 RBI), who posted a .309 batting average in June, capping it off by hitting for the cycle on Sunday. If the Texas lineup gets going early, they should be able to tag the White Sox starter for at least four or five runs.
The Rangers will have their ace on the mound in Nathan Eovaldi (4-3, 3.45 ERA). The veteran was a key part of the team during their championship run last season and is doing so again in 2024. His season numbers are impressive, but the righty is coming off a rough June, where he finished with an ERA of 4.14. His last outing was one of his worst, allowing five runs on nine hits over seven innings.
Things won’t be easy for Eovaldi as he faces a red-hot Padres lineup. The team has scored 7+ runs in five of their last six games. Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado have been leading the way of late, with the latter finally showing signs of life after an underwhelming start to the season. Eovaldi is better than he showed in June, but he will struggle against this hot-hitting lineup tonight.
Bet on Over 7.5 (-114) at FanDuel
Both teams will have great young starters on the mound tonight, meaning this game will come down to these two offenses. That makes this an easy bet, given Seattle's struggles at the plate in 2024. The team came in with low expectations and has somehow underperformed, ranking dead last in batting average. Those struggles have been exacerbated by Julio Rodriguez’s cold start to the season, taking away the team’s most dangerous bat.
The Mariners will have their work cut off tonight against Grayson Rodriguez (9-3, 3.72 ERA). While he was shelled by a great Astros lineup two weeks ago, the righty bounced back to allow just two runs on five hits over seven innings against the Guardians. It was similar to his start three weeks ago, where he held the Phillies to two runs over seven innings. Rodriguez dominated the Mariners in May, holding them scoreless on one hit over six innings. We expect to see a similar result tonight.
Seattle will have George Kirby (7-5, 3.35 ERA) take the mound tonight. He has been incredible over his last six starts, holding opponents to two or fewer runs each. That is an impressive streak, but he will face a far better team tonight. The Orioles beat him up last month for five runs over six innings.
As well as Kirby is pitching, the Orioles won’t need to do much to support Rodriguez and their bullpen. Given that the team leads all of baseball in home runs and RBIs, we think they can score enough runs to secure the win.
