The Chicago Cubs are losing games at an incredible pace. Since May 12, they have won two series, taking two out of three games from the Giants and White Sox. Their poor play at the plate is a big reason why they have been disappointing in 2024. Chicago ranks twenty-fifth in batting average and nineteenth in runs scored, a significant change from when they ranked in the top 11 for both categories in 2023.
The floundering Cubs lineup will face Colen Rea (6-2, 3.62 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) on the mound tonight. Like many veterans before him, the righty has found success with Milwaukee late in his career, posting his best season through the first three months. Rea was beaten up in his last start but still owns a 3.22 ERA across four June starts. We like that trend to continue against a Cubs team that managed just one run against him back in May.
Chicago will also have a veteran on the mound in Jameson Taillon (4-3, 2.90 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). The 32-year-old has a fantastic season and allowed three runs over his previous three starts (19 innings). Tonight’s outing will be the second time he will face the Brewers this season, allowing three runs across three innings in a loss last month.
As impressive as the Cubs’ starting rotation is, their bullpen is losing them many games. The back end of the pen has been terrible, with Mark Leiter Jr (5.34 ERA), Hector Neris (4.55 ERA), and Adbert Alzolay (4.67 ERA) all struggling. Those issues cost them the series against Milwaukee last month, and things won’t be any easier with the Crew now ranking fifth in batting average and sixth in runs scored.

Beating the under against the Mariners has been one of the smartest bets of the 2024 season. The team has a combination of elite pitching and poor hitting, ranking seventh in ERA and twenty-ninth in batting average. The result has been the Mariners hitting the under in 56.4% of their games overall and 67.6% of games at home. That makes them one of the safest under bets in the league, and tonight’s matchup will be no different.
The Mariners' mediocre lineup will face Bailey Ober (7-4, 4.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) on the hill tonight. The righty is having the worst season of his still-young career, but he has been turning things around in June. He has a 3.60 ERA over four starts this month, including a solid out on the road against the Yankees. Ober faced the Mariners on May 7, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings. That start came amid a rough month for him, so we expect an even better result now that he is back in form.
The Mariners will have Logan Gilbert (5-4, 2.71 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) starting tonight. The 27-year-old has become one of the best pitchers in baseball, ranking tenth in ERA and second in WHIP. He has not allowed a run in his two previous starts, scattering just six hits and one walk across 16 innings.
The Twins have been red-hot at the plate, but they will run into a brick wall on the mound in Seattle tonight.
