There are many great opportunities to win money from today’s slate of MLB games. The first comes from a pitchers’ duel between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers. The second is a game between the AL West cellar-dwellers as the Oakland Athletics visit the Los Angeles Angels.
Below, we will share our favorite bet for both of these games. The odds we use will be taken from FanDuel Sportsbook, which offers a welcome bonus of $150 in Bonus Bets when they sign up and make an initial winning wager of $5+.

This is our favorite bet of the day for a couple of reasons. One is that the Phillies lineup is scorching hot, scoring 20 runs in three games against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. They now rank third in batting average and fourth in runs scored, making them one of the league’s most productive lineups. While they will be facing one of the best pitchers in baseball tonight, we think they have the advantage.
The Tigers will have Cy Young-favorite Tarik Skubal (8-3, 2.50 ERA, 0.97 WHIP) on the hill tonight. The 27-year-old has become one of the best pitchers in the league but has been struggling lately. Over his previous two starts, Skubal allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and three walks across 10 1/3 innings. Those starts were against the Astros and Braves, and now he’ll face a Philly lineup that is even better. While he may not get shelled, the Phillies will be able to do enough to support their ace tonight.
Ranger Suarez (10-1, 1.75 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) will be starting for the Phillies tonight. The lefty is having the best season of his career and has shown no signs of slowing down, with a 1.77 ERA across four starts this month. Considering he also owns an ERA of 1.94 on the road and 1.04 in night games, we expect another gem from Suarez tonight.
While the Tigers' lineup has been dangerous, it has also regressed. They have been held to one or fewer runs in five of their previous seven games heading into the series. Detroit is batting low. The 223 batting average over the last week is bad news heading into a matchup against one of the league’s top pitchers.
Bet on Phillies -1.5 (+126) at FanDuel
This isn’t exactly a marquee matchup, but it offers a great chance to make money. As bad as both teams are, the Angels will have a significant advantage with Tyler Anderson (6-7, 2.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) on the mound tonight. While his short time with the Angels won’t be remembered fondly, the veteran has bounced back to deliver a fantastic 2024 campaign.
Anderson is amid a fantastic June, where he has allowed one run in three of his four starts. That includes two impressive outings against offensive powerhouses in the Padres and Brewers. His last start came at home against Milwaukee, allowing only one run over seven innings. He’ll bring that momentum in tonight’s start, where Anderson will face an A’s team with a combined .133 batting average against him.
The A’s will have a talented rookie on the mound in Mitch Spence (4-3, 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP). The righty has been solid for Oakland but struggled over four starts in June. He owns a 4.38 ERA this month, losing all four starts. We like Spence as a young pitching prospect, but we aren’t willing to bet on him while opponents are batting .295 the first time they see the rookie.
