We have been high on Seth Lugo all season, and we are going to be putting our money where our mouth. Our first bet will cover his start today as the Kansas City Royals face off against the Oakland A’s. The second bet comes from a battle between division leaders as the Seattle Mariners visit the Cleveland Guardians.
Below, we will share our favorite bet for each game. The odds we use are taken from FanDuel Sportsbook, which offers new players a welcome bonus of $200 in Bonus Bets when they sign up and make an initial winning wager of $5+.

These teams have both been doing some losing over the last few weeks. The difference is that the Royals’ recent skid came against the Yankees and the Dodgers. We like the Royals for two reasons. The first is their lineup, highlighted by two rising stars, Maikal Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr. Both players are having fantastic seasons at the top of the Kansas City batting order and have gotten some support from veteran Salvador Perez.
The other reason we like the Royals is tonight’s starting pitcher, Seth Lugo (10-2, 2.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP). The 34-year-old has been fantastic in 2024 and finished May with an ERA of 1.72. A pair of tough outings against the Yankees and Guardians boosted that number, but Lugo bounced back against the Dodgers last week. He delivered a quality start, allowing two runs across six innings. The A’s will be a far easier test, leading to the veteran’s second win over the team this season.
While the A’s are back to their losing ways, they are a more dangerous team than last year. They have some hot bats and pitching that have been better than expected (not that says much). One of the reasons for the team's improving pitching is Mitch Spence. The rookie started the season as a reliever but has worked his way into the rotation. While he has a couple of impressive outings, he was hit hard in his last start. Spence allowed the Twins to score four runs on nine hits and one walk over 5 ⅔ innings. The Royals will present another stiff challenge tonight, and we don’t think the rookie rises to meet it.

The Mariners have been one of the hottest teams in baseball of late. They managed to sweep the Rangers heading into this Cleveland series, building their lead in the AL West up to ten games. We have known this team has some of the best pitching in baseball, but their offense has finally started to consistently generate runs. We love their chances to stay hot against s struggling Guardians pitcher tonight.
Logan Allen (7-3, 5.30 PM) will be on the mound for the Guardians tonight. The 25-year-old had a great 2023 rookie campaign but has regressed this season. While the lefty still is capable of throwing some gems, he has also allowed seven runs in a start twice over his last starts.
The young pitchers did face the Mariners earlier this season and delivered zero runs on four hits, and three walks over 6 ⅔ innings. As impressive as that was, this is a very different Seattle team. Their hot bats will present far more of a challenge for Allen, and it will result in another ugly outing for the second-year pitcher.
The Mariners will have their ace on the mound in Luis Castillo (6-7, 3.32 ERA). The veteran was beaten up for four runs on ten hits when he faced the Guardians in his second start of the season, but don’t expect to see that repeated tonight. Castillo took time to get going this season, allowing four runs in each of his first three starts. He has allowed more than two runs once since that rocky start, showing that he is a different pitcher now.
