We have a pair of fantastic bets from Wednesday’s slate of games. The first is a pitching duel as Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers visit Reynaldo Lopez and the Atlanta Braves. The other is a key AL East battle between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
Below, we will share our favorite bet for each game. We’ll use odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, which offers a welcome bonus of $200 in Bonus Bets to new players who sign up and make an initial winning wager of $5+.

This is one of the best pitching matchups of the week, so we are locking in the under tonight. On one side is Tigers’ starter Tarik Skubal (8-2, 2.20 ERA, 0.91 WHIP). The 27-year-old has gotten better in each of his five seasons in the MLB and is now one of the best pitchers in baseball. Skubal has posted an ERA under 2.90 in the last three months, including across three starts in June.
While Skubal was hit hard by a great Astros lineup in his last start, he will face a more manageable challenge tonight in the Braves. Atlanta still has some big bats, but they rank around the middle of the league in both batting average and runs scored. While Austin Riley is finally getting hot, the rest of this lineup will struggle against Skubal’s impressive arsenal of pitches tonight.
The Atlanta Braves will have Reynaldo Lopez (4-2, 1.69 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) starting opposite Skubal tonight. The veteran has served as a reliever since 2020 but has broken out as a starter this season. His numbers are awe-inspiring, as is the fact that he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his 12 starts this season. On top of that, Lopez has allowed three runs just once.
Detroit’s lineup has not performed as the team hoped coming into the season. They are currency ranked twenty-fifth in batting average and seventeenth in runs scored. One reason for that is the regression of slugger Spencer Torkelson, whose struggles have landed him in AAA. Riley Greene is dangerous, but the rest of the Tigers lineup doesn’t have the talent to beat up on a pitcher of Lopez’s talent.

After missing almost three months, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is set to make his 2024 debut. Elbow injuries caused him to land on the IL heading into the season, but he has looked dominant while working his way through a minor-league rehab assignment. His return gives an already good Yankees rotation a significant boost, and we love his chances to lead the Yankees to an important win over their division rival tonight.
Cole is the reigning AL Cy Young winner and finished eleventh in AL MVP voting after going 15-4 with a 2.63 ERA. We don’t expect him to last long in his debut, but the innings he does pitch will give the Yankees time to build a lead against a rookie Baltimore starter tonight.
The Orioles will have Cade Povich on the bump against the first-place Yankees. The 24-year-old was shelled by Toronto in his first start but bounced back to shut out the Braves over six innings last week. While Povich looked sharp, that performance came against an Atlanta team that has struggled to get their offense going this season. He will face far more of a challenge against the Yankees, leading to a short and ugly start.
While Aaron Judge has cooled off after his incredible hot streak, he is still doing a ton of damage. He and Juan Soto are two of the best duos in the league, and the rest of the lineup fits well with them. The Yankees have scored more runs than any other team in the league, and they will further boost that total against Povich and the Orioles tonight.
