We have a pair of bets involving two of baseball's most disappointing teams. The first is on an AL West battle between the Astros and Mariners. The second comes from a matchup between the Diamondbacks and a flailing Mets team.

The Astros seemed to be turning things around but have returned to their losing ways. As good as their lineup has been, their starting rotation is a problem. Houston's starting rotation will be a big part of that problem tonight. Rookie Spencer Arrighetti (2-5, 6.93 ERA), who is 0-4 with a 10.26 ERA on the road this season, will be on the mound for Houston.
Houston’s top pitching prospect is being crushed by opposing batters, posting a brutal 1.78 WHIP over eight starts this season. Even his best outings involve far too many hits and walks, often being bailed out by his defense to prevent runs. Arrighetti is coming off another rough start, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. That came against the A’s, whose offense is even worse than the one he will see today.
The Mariners will have Logan Gilbert (3-2, 3.06 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) starting against the Astros explosive lineup this afternoon. The 27-year-old has become one of the best pitchers in the league, though he has struggled a bit in May. We love his chances to continue to turn things around tonight as he faces an Astros team he held scoreless over eight innings on May 4. While he may not be able to replicate that today, he’ll do more than enough to put Seattle’s lineup in a position to win.

We aren’t blind to what this Mets team has been in 2024, but they’ll be facing a Diamondbacks team that hasn’t been much better. Arizona’s record remains under .500 as the losses have piled up over the last two weeks. Aside from a great showing against the rival Dodgers, Arizona has struggled badly to score runs. That’s good news for Mets starting pitcher Christian Scott (0-2, 3.97 ERA).
Scott will be making the fifth start of his career tonight. He is the Mets’ top pitching prospect and has looked like it so far in 2024. The 24-year-old has registered a quality start in three of his four appearances. That includes his start against the Giants last week when he allowed just two runs on two hits and one walk across six innings. The Diamondbacks offense is similar, if not worse, to the Giants, and they have been struggling to score runs late.
The Diamondbacks will have their ace on the mound tonight in Zac Gallen (5-4, 3.12 ERA). The righty is having another great campaign, but he does not have a good history against the Mets. He made one start against the Mets last season and was lit up for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks across five innings. That start was on the road and came against a Mets team whose season was all but over. While it may not be as ugly as that tonight, we see him being chased from the game early en route to a loss.
