Our favorite two bets for today involve games in which we expect to see some offensive fireworks. The first is a matchup between the Diamondbacks and Cardinals, and the other is an NL Central battle between the Brewers and Pirates.

The Cardinals have yet to find their groove in 2024, and things won’t get any easier for them this afternoon. One reason is that they’ll face a familiar face on the mound in Jordan Montgomery (1-0, 1.50 ERA). The former Cardinal has been fantastic since breaking out in 2021 and is off to a great start this season. He debuted with the D-backs last Friday, allowing one run on four hits across six innings against the Giants.
The Giants aren’t much of a test for pitchers in 2024, but neither have the Cardinals. St. Louis is twenty-sixth in batting average (.220) and twenty-fifth in runs scored (81). While several players are struggling to get on base, none have been more impactful than Paul Goldschmidt (.195 BA, 2 HR, 9 RBI). The former NL MVP has been horrendous, posting a .298 OBP and .268 SLG. He’s been a bit better over the last few games, but it's hardly enough to confirm he’s turned things around.
The D-backs have scored the most runs in the league (134), and they’ll add to that total tonight with Kyle Gibson (1-2, 5.04 ERA) on the mound for the Cardinals. The 36-year-old hasn’t been very good as his career winds down, posting an ERA over 5.00 in two of the last three seasons. While Gibson managed to shut down a good Milwaukee team in his previous start, he didn’t have his best stuff, allowing four walks over six innings. He’ll face a more challenging test today, and the results won’t be pretty.
If you are looking for an offensive slugfest to watch tonight, be sure to tune into the Brewers vs. Pirates game tonight. While both lineups have gone cold over of late, we have seen how great they are capable of being. They’ll have a great chance to demonstrate that tonight with a pair of subpar pitchers on the mound.
The Brewers will be starting reliever Bryse Wilson (2-0, 3.29 ERA) tonight thanks to a slew of injuries to their pitching staff. While Wilson was a fantastic reliever for the Crew last season, he has never found success as a starter. He has made 44 career starts, but the results were horrific. While he likely won’t stay in the game long, he will get tagged for multiple runs before Milwaukee turns to their now short-handed bullpen.
The Brewers have struggled on offense since losing Christian Yelich to a back injury, but they can still put up massive numbers. That’s especially true with Rhys Hoskins (.222 BA, 5 HR, 14 RBI) starting to find his power stroke. We expect them to put up a big number tonight against a Pittsburgh team with a struggling young starter and a bad bullpen.
The young pitcher that Pittsburgh will have on the mound tonight is Quinn Priester (0-1, 8.31 ERA). The 23-year-old debuted in the big leagues last season, playing in ten games (eight starts) and posting a 7.74 ERA. Things did not look any better in his sole start this season, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits across 4 1/3 innings.
