Our bets for today focus on a pair of games with some of the top arms in the league on the mound tonight. The first bet is from the Tigers vs. Rays game, where both starting pitchers own ERAs under 2.30. The other bet comes from a matchup between the Phillies and Reds featuring a red-hot Ranger Suarez.
Below, we’ll share the odds and insights you need to bet on both games confidently. We’ll be using odds taken from BetMGM Sportsbook. Not already a BetMGM customer? Sign up today using promo code WSNMGM to earn a $1,500 First Bet Offer*.

The Tigers and Rays will kick off their three-game series tonight in Tampa Bay. Both teams have gotten off to uneven starts, partly thanks to inconsistent offense. The Rays have yet to get much from Randy Arozarena or Yandy Diaz, both of whom were expected to step up in Wander Franco’s absence. The Tigers stars have also started slow, with the team's most reliable hitter being Kerry Carpenter. While he is only playing against right-handed pitching, he will be in the lineup with RHP Zack Littell on the bump.
Littell (1-0, 2.14 ERA) has been fantastic for the Rays in 2024. After breaking out as a starter last season, he has allowed one or fewer runs in three of his four starts. We see his success continuing tonight against a Tigers team he held scoreless over six innings last season. We don’t expect Littell to stay at his current level all season, but he will succeed against a soft Tigers lineup.
The Tigers will turn to left-anded Tarik Skubal (2-0, 2.28 ERA, 0.80 WHIP) on the mound. The 27-year-old has dropped his ERA by around a full point each season since making his debut in 2020. While it seems impossible for him to do that again this season (2.80 ERA in 2023), Skubal has been incredible. The lefty did face the Rays once last season, through 5 1/3 scoreless innings. We think he delivers an even better effort tonight.
The Reds are better than they have played, but we see them adding another loss to their record tonight. One big reason is how well the Phillies have been playing of late. They have now won six straight games after sweeping the Rockies and White Sox. While those are two bad teams, it has given an underperforming Phillies team the spark they have been needing.
The Phillis' impressive play of late has been led by Trea Turner (.353 BA, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 4 SB) and Bryce Harper (.237 BA, 4 HR, 12 RBI). Turner started the season cold but has raised his average from .217 on April 3 to .353 today, thanks partly to multi-hit games in four of his previous five games. Harper hasn’t been quite that hot but does own a modest six-game win streak.
Another big reason we love this bet is the pitching matchup. Ranger Suarez (3-0, 1.73 ERA, 0.77 WHIP) will get the start for Philly after throwing a complete game shutout in his last appearance. Suarez has been near unhittable in three starts this month, allowing two runs across 21 innings.
He’ll have an edge over Reds’ starter Hunter Greene (0-1, 4.35 ERA), who has struggled to find consistency. He is coming off a start where he allowed three walks and four hits to the Mariners across four innings. The Phillies are seeing the ball as well as anyone in baseball as of late, and they’ll be more than capable of making Greene pay if he can’t find his control.
