Tuesday’s slate of games features some ugly pitching matchups, but we also see two NL West games where money can be made. The first features the Diamondbacks offense visiting the Rockies at Coors Field. After that, the Giants will play host to a struggling Nationals team.
Below, we will break down both games and give you the best bets. All odds are provided by BetMGM Sportsbook, which is currently giving new players a $1,500 First Bet Offer when they use promo code WSNMGM.

While we wish the prices were better, this is one of the safest bets of the week. The D-backs could have had a better start but faced a challenging schedule when opening the system. Arizona has one of the best lineups in the NL, which is dangerous heading into Coors Field. They’ll be facing a Rockies team that has been awful both at the plate and on the mound. They don’t even have half as much talent as the D-backs, and it will show in tonight’s game.
Arizona will have Merril Kelly on the mound tonight. The 35-year-old is coming off one of his best seasons and has carried that success over to 2024. He has made two starts, allowing a combined three runs and eight hits across 13 2/3 innings. Kelly dominated the Rockies last season, going 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA over three starts. Two of those came in Colorado, showing he has no problem pitching in the altitude.
The Rockies will have Cal Quantrill starting opposite of Kelly. The veteran had a rough 2023 season, going 4-7 with a 5.24 ERA. Things haven’t been much better early in 2024, as he has a 9.00 ERA across two starts. He allowed at least four runs in both starts, failing to go past five innings in both. While Quantrill had success before last season, that wasn’t in the pitcher's hell, which is Coors Field. Since joining the team, it’ll be his first start there, and we don’t think the kit will be pretty.
We like this bet for a few different reasons. The first is that the game will be played at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The park is one of the most pitcher-friendly in the league, which leads to a lot of under bets. Combine that with the two shaky lineups playing today, and you can see why we are jumping all over this bet.
Another reason we like this bet is the Nationals’ starter, Josiah Gray. He has not had a good start to the season, but the 26-year-old broke out in 2023, finishing with a 3.91 ERA. That included two impressive starts against the Giants, allowing three runs on nine hits over a combined 14 innings. That will give him confidence tonight and will lead to him delivering his first quality start of the season.
The Giants will have Kyle Harrison on the bump tonight. The 22-year-old had a strong (albeit short) rookie campaign in 2023, going 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA over seven starts. While Harrison struggled against the Dodgers, he delivered a quality start on the road against the Padres in his first start. Control can be an issue for the young pitcher, but he’ll be facing a much easier foe in the Nationals. Look for him to impress, helping to deliver a surprising pitchers duel in San Francisco tonight.
