The MLB season is in full swing, and Monday brings us an incredible slate of games.
Among the best are invoices from a pair of AL East teams taking on Western foes. First, the Blue Jays will take on an Astros team that has dominated the AL West over the last decade. After that, the New York Yankees will head to the desert to take on a Diamondbacks team battling for an NL West title.
Below, we’ll share our favorite bets for these great games. We’ll provide the latest odds from BetMGM Sportsbook, which is offering new bettors a $1,500 First Bet Offer when they sign up using promo code WSNMGM.

The Yankees had many questions coming into the season after a disappointing 2023 season. Those questions were put to bed (for now) after they went into Houston and came away with a four-game sweep. While there are a lot of good things to take away from that sweep, their ability to score runs was a breath of fresh air for Yankees fans. The team struggled with it last year, but the addition of Juan Soto has already made a strong impact.
The Diamondbacks are also a team with a potent offense, led by a budding superstar: Corbin Carroll. Their young bats helped them make a incredible run in the playoffs, losing in the NLCS. They returned much of the same lineup, and are expected to challenge the Dodgers in the NL West. That means tonight’s game will come down to pitching.
We like the Yankees edge on the mound tonight. They’ll be sending young Luis Gil out to the mound. He hasn’t played in a big league game since 2022 but has seven career starts and a 3.79 ERA. Gil had Tommy John surgery that kept him on the shelf last season, but his fastball speed was back up in Spring Training. While he may be on a pitch count, we think Gil re-enters the big leagues with a bang tonight.
Ryne Nelson will be getting the start for the D-backs tonight. The 26-year-old starter was terrible in 2023, finishing with a 5.31 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. Given the improved Yankee lineup, we don’t expect things to change in his first start in 2024.

This matchup features two teams that had tough starts to the season. The Jays split a four-game series with the Rays, while the Yankees swept the Astros at home. Both teams had a tough start to last season, and it cost them their respective division titles. Now, they’ll face off to try and salvage a stronger start to 2024.
While both offenses have a ton of firepower, we live the under to hit tonight. One reason for that is an underrated pitching matchup. The Jays will have Bowden Francis on the hill tonight. The reliever will be making his first career start, but he has a career 1.73 ERA as a reliever. His fastball doesn’t overwhelm hitters, but he has developed a curveball that has led to a lot of strikeouts. Many scouts have been high on Francis, and we will see why tonight.
The Astros will send Ronel Blanco to the mound tonight. He bounced between the bullpen and rotation for Houston in 2023 but will be getting an important start tonight. While an effective reliever, Blanco has yet to find consistent success as a starter. He has mostly provided short starts with mixed results. However, his best start of the season came against the Blue Jays, limiting them to two runs on three hits.
