The MLB season is officially underway, and so is the baseball betting season. We saw some great games on Opening Day, and today’s slate promises the same excitement.
We have two favorite bets today, both involving New York teams. The first is the Mets’ opening their season against a young Brewers team, while the other features two World Series contenders as the Yankees take on the Astros.
Below, we’ll share our favorite bets for each game, giving you the odds and insights you need to bet confidently on them.
The odds for Brewers vs. Mets are from BetMGM, where you can receive up to $1,500 in Bonus Bets by signing up with our promo code WSNMGM. Meanwhile, for the Yankees vs. Astros, we've got the odds from FanDuel, where you can get $150 in bonus bets if your first bet wins.

We aren’t sure what to make of the Mets, but we know this Brewers team will take some time to figure things out. The addition of Rhys Hoskins gives the lineup a bat they have sorely missed the last couple of seasons, but the team will have a lot of young talent on the field, led by a new manager in Pat Murphy. Milwaukee could figure things out and make a run in the NL Central, but it won’t happen quickly.
The Mets will have a home-field advantage tonight, but they’ll also have an advantage on the mound. Veteran lefty Jose Quintana has dominated Milwaukee of late, allowing just six runs over his last four starts against the Brew crew.
Milwaukee will send Freddy Peralta to the mound tonight. The 27-year-old can be one of the most dominant pitchers in the league, but consistency has been an issue. That is especially true on the road, where he posted a 4.34 ERA and allowed batters to hit for a .316 average in 2023.
While we would like the Mets to win, we don’t see a high-scoring game. They will get to Peralta a bit, but the Brewers offense will turn a quiet day as their young lineup adjusts. We expect the Brewers to hit a lot of orders this season, starting today.

We aren’t sold on this Yankees team, but we expect them to put up some impressive run totals in 2024. The addition of Juan Soto gives them another elite bat to insert ahead of Judge in the lineup. That duo will drive in a ton of runs this season, and they’ll have an excellent opportunity to do just that tonight.
The Astros will be sending Cristian Javier to the mound tonight. After three impressive seasons with the Astros, the former reliever wasn’t great in his first full season as a starter. He went 10-5 with a 4.56 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP, relying on the team’s explosive offense to get wins. While his numbers are solid against the Yankees, most came when he was working out of the bullpen.
Javier had a rough 2023 campaign, but it wasn’t as bad as Yankees’ starter Carlos Rodon. The 31-year-old was shelled last season, finishing with a 3-8 record, 6.85 ERA, and 1.45 WHIP across 14 starts. It was a startling regression for a pitcher who had posted ERAs below 2.90 in the previous two seasons. It's hard to say which version of Javier will show up this season, but he’ll be in trouble tonight against an Astros team that scored the fifth most runs in the league last year in 2023.
The over is our favorite bet here, but we’re also taking the Astros to win. While both starting pitchers struggled last season, Javier found his stuff during the playoffs. We believe in him far more than Rodon, who had a rough spring training. While that doesn’t necessarily indicate regular-season success, we also saw him lose some speed on his fastball. Rodon relies on his fastball for swinging strikes, which could turn into hits if he can’t regain his speed.
