Saturday evening will see Chivas Guadalajara make its way to Estadio BBVA to take on Monterrey. The giants from the north will look to sustain their first-place lead in the Clausura with a victory at home. In their previous 28 clashes, Chivas occupies the slight edge in the head-to-head department winning on 13 occasions and drawing four times. More recently these two met back in September with Monterrey walking away and securing all three points winning 2-1.
Monterrey is in sensational form at the moment, winners of five straight in all competitions. The Rayados also remain the only undefeated club in the Liga MX Clausura season. The club is getting first-class performances on attack and defense, owning the best goal differential at plus 15.
Meanwhile, for Chivas Guadalajara, the club are in opposite form to their counterparts. In all competitions, they have only managed to grab two victories in their last eight. Currently, it’s not all gloomy for Chivas as they sit in 10th place, in their most recent outing they were able to split the points with the second-best side in the table, drawing Club America in a goalless match.
Heading into Saturday's fixture, it’s no surprise the books have Monterrey listed as the favorite on the money line at -150. The draw is +275 and for Chivas to pull off the massive upset they’re listed at +400 on the moneyline. Despite the disparity in the table, the books realize Chivas does have a shot in this fixture. The Striped Goats own the 10th-best away record with a minus-three goal differential.

Upfront on attack, this is a team that is difficult to contain as they have scored the third highest number of goals in the competition with 23. In four of their last five their last five matches, they have managed to register two or more goals. The only concern heading into this fixture is with the international break ending hopefully it didn’t fully interfere with Monterrey goal scoring ways.
If Monterrey picks up where they left off there will be no shortage of players to pick from to find the back of the net. Through 12 rounds, this side has pencilled in eight different players on the scorers sheet. Led by Brandon Vazquez and Sergio Canales with five goals a piece, they will both look to snap their two-game goalless drought in domestic play on Saturday.
It has been an emotional couple of weeks for Chivas as they have to endure three El Super Clasico matches in 10 days, walking away as the victors once. This is a side that has had to grapple with finding goals on the road. Only beating the keeper five times puts them overall as the second lowest scoring club on the road.
If there is one player who can turn the tide around and help out nabbing goals on the road, it’s Victor Guzman. The 29-year-old has recorded six goals along with logging in 818 minutes of action. In his last start on March 9th, Guzman played 61 minutes, picked up a yellow card and finished with an 87 percent passing accuracy going 26-for-30.

This encounter over the weekend is pointing in one direction and that’s to back the home side in this meeting. Monterrey is just on another level now showing no signs of slowing down. It’s no lock but they look like a team of destiny looking to claim their first Liga MX title since 2019.
On the other hand, Chivas Guadalajara are no slouches as they’re in the middle of the mix. That said the opponent they’re facing could make for a taxing affair. This is a side that struggles to score on the road and faces a defence that is currently averaging 0.71 goals against per game at the Estadio BBVA.
