Our Picks: Mazatlan to win.
The Ismael Rescalvo-managed club will be confident after defeating Atlas in their last fixture away from home. Mazatlan displayed their goal-scoring prowess with lesser possession and shots on target to secure a 3-1 victory. Ake Arnaud Loba (12’ 32’) netted a first-half brace for the visitors, while Jose Maduena (90+7’) scored the third in injury time. Atlas found their lone goal in the first half through Juan Zumaque (22’).
Queretaro will challenge the hosts in the upcoming clash to salvage at least one point from the match. They were reduced to ten men at home in their previous match against 10-man Club Tijuana but managed to clinch a slender 1-0 victory. The hosts scored through Pablo Barrera (83’) in the dying minutes to seal all three points. It will be necessary for the visiting players to produce another special moment against Mazatlan to seal a victory.
Mazatlan will be the favorites to defend their fortress against a better-placed Queretaro in the upcoming clash.
Mazatlan and Queretaro have faced off six times in Liga MX since their first meeting in August 2020. The clashes between the two clubs have remained neck and neck, with Mazatlan winning two matches and Queretaro winning one, while three fixtures ended in a draw.
Queretaro hosted Mazatlan in a Liga MX Clausura fixture in their previous meeting. The visitors controlled the possession, but the hosts created more chances. Queretaro forward Jose Zuniga Murillo opened the scoring in the 37th minute, while Mazatlan forward Nicolas Benedetti (49’) restored parity in the second half.
Mazatlan has three losses, one win, and a draw in their last five encounters at home. Queretaro, meanwhile, will be eager to take at least a point from the clash after recording two wins and three losses in their last five away matches.
Mazatlan will be eager to improve their record at home to end their four-match winless streak. The club registered their last win at home against Puebla in August.
Since then, the club has registered a draw against Cruz Azul (2-2), a loss to Tigres UANL (2-3), and a 1-2 defeat to Club America. It will be a chance for Mazatlan to seal all three points against an underperforming Queretaro side at home.
The hosts will continue to feature without their key forward, Benedetti. The Colombian sustained a cruciate ligament injury in the first week of October and has been ruled out of the season. He was talismanic in the Liga MX Apertura, scoring twice and assisting three goals.
The hosts have a long list of injured players, including winger Alan Media, whose return remains doubtful. It also includes Andres Montano (knee injury), Lucas Merolla (knee injury), Nestor Vidrio (thigh injury) and Roberto Meraz.
The hosts will bank on their prolific center forward, Loba, to guide them to victory. The Ivorian has netted six times and assisted once in nine appearances.
He will also find support in Paraguayan midfielder Josue Colman, who has assisted thrice and netted once in 12 appearances.

Queretaro will be eager to improve their standings in the Liga MX Apertura. They are currently placed in the 12th spot with 15 points. A win will help the visitors break into the top 10 standing in the league.
However, it will be a test of character for the visitors as they have not won an away match since September. Since their last away against Cruz Azul, the visitors were thrashed 4-0 by Pumas UNAM while registering a 3-1 loss to Toluca.
The visiting side will be without the services of their Colombian center forward, Jose Zuniga, and left back, Raul Sandoval. The duo will serve their respective suspensions after being sent off with a red card.
Mexican goalkeeper Fernando Tapia will be unavailable for selection due to personal reasons, while left-back Jonathan Perlaza (knee injury) is expected to remain out of action till March 2024.
Colombian forward Zuniga has not been up to the mark, as he has netted only thrice and assisted once in nine appearances for his club. However, he is the leading goalscorer for the club and will be expected to make his presence felt in a crucial match. He will hope to find support in Brazilian forward Camilo, who has netted twice in 10 appearances.
Midfielder Barrera will also look to contribute to the club after assisting thrice and scoring once in 12 appearances.
