FC Juarez have suffered frustrating defeats in their last four outings in the Liga MX. After a 1-1 draw with Necaxa last month, the club lost four successive games against Atlas FC, Tijuana, Monterrey, and Pachuca.
On the other hand, San Luis has had a mixed bag of results. The visitors have not been in the best form in the last few weeks, as they have defeated Mazatlan FC and Necaxa but lost against Pumas UNAM, Cruz Azul, and Tijuana.
Despite their poor recent form, the visitors are favorites to pick up all three points against FC Juarez.
Being fairly new clubs in Liga MX, both teams have only clashed nine times so far. The home side is slightly ahead of San Luis, with four wins, while San Luis are not far behind, with three wins under their belt. The remaining two matches have ended in draws.
FC Juarez have beaten San Luis three times in the last five meetings. One match ended in a draw. However, in their most recent encounter in April 2023, San Luis got the best of Juarez, defeating them 2-0 at home.
FC Juarez have collected just 15 points from a possible 36 in the current Apertura season. After playing 12 games, Diego Mejia’s men have registered just four victories. They have lost five games and drawn three.
Being in the last qualification spot, the hosts need some solid results from the remaining games to confirm playoff presence this season and ward off teams like Atlas, Queretaro, Santos Laguna, and Pachuca, who are hot at the heels of FC Juarez.
FC Juarez entered the top flight of Mexican football in 2019 and have been a part of Liga MX since. However, they have only managed to qualify for the knockouts twice so far, once in 2020, when the league was suspended due to the pandemic, and in Apertura 2022, where they lost in the additional qualifier round called the “reclassification.”
In Clausura 2023, the team finished 16th out of 18 teams. Their poor form stretches back to the previous Clausura season. Mejia’s team has failed to keep a clean sheet for 24 consecutive matches.
FC Juarez will miss Diego Valoyes in the clash against San Luis. The right-winger is out with a hamstring injury and is expected to return early next month. The 27-year-old has contributed two assists and one goal for his team this season and has been a key figure on the pitch.
Apart from Valoyes, defensive midfielder Manuel Castro is also out with a knee injury and is doubtful to return for Wednesday’s clash. The hosts will also miss Oscar Ortega, who is doubtful.

San Luis are enjoying a fantastic run in Liga MX this Apertura season, placing third behind giants like Club America and Tigres UANL. A victory on Wednesday by more than a goal could see them leapfrog defending champions Tigres into second place.
San Luis have recorded seven victories out of the 12 games played so far. They have lost just four games and drawn one. Gustavo Leal’s team stuttered a little in the past few weeks, with three of those four losses coming in their last five outings.
San Luis did well as the Apertura season began, winning five of their first seven games, drawing one against a strong opponent like Monterrey, and losing just once. However, in the recent few fixtures, they’ve struggled to add points to their kitty.
Tijuana and Club Universidad Nacional beat San Luis on the road, and then Cruz Azul defeated them at home. Leal’s men managed to record a narrow home win against Mazatlan FC and a much more convincing one against Necaxa in the previous round.
San Luis had their best season in the 2023 Clausura, where they made it to the quarterfinals for the first time since entering the Liga MX in 2019. This time, they are in a prime position to go further in the tournament.
However, their path will not be easy, as they have yet to face the top-placed clubs in the league. San Luis are yet to play first-placed Club America, defending champions Tigres, ten-time Liga MX winners Toluca, and six-time champions Santos Laguna.
