Necaxa and Monterrey are the only two teams that have yet to lose a game in the current Clausura campaign. However, five of Necaxa’s seven games this season have ended in draws. The two wins came at the start of the season against Atlas and Puebla in consecutive games. After that, Necaxa secured stalemates against Club America, Pumas UNAM, FC Juarez, Toluca, and Queretaro.
Chivas have won three, drawn as many, and lost only one out of their seven games this season so far. After remaining winless in the first three games of the season against Santos, Tigres UANL, and Tijuana, the club won three consecutive games against Toluca, San Luis, and FC Juarez to regain momentum. During this stint, Chivas also secured wins in their two-legged first-round CONCACAF Champions Cup encounters against Forge FC.
Necaxa have the home advantage in the next match, and Chivas have only won one of four games. At the same time, they have also lost just one on the road, with the remaining two matches ending in draws. This will be a tightly contested encounter, with the visitors strong favorites to scrape past the hosts in their own backyard.
Since 2010, these two clubs have clashed 17 times in Liga MX. The head-to-head record is one-sided, with Chivas winning on 11 occasions and Necaxa winning only once. The remaining five matches have ended in draws.
Necaxa's one and only win in this fixture came in the Apertura 2019 season, and it came in Chivas’ backyard. Maximiliano Salas and Luis Gallegos scored for the visitors before Dieter Villalpando pulled one back, as the game ended 2-1.
Chivas have won all their last five encounters against Necaxa in Liga MX. During this prolific run, the 12-time Liga MX champions have conceded just one goal, securing shutouts in each of the last four encounters with Necaxa.
After finishing at the Apertura 2023 season with a wooden spoon, Necaxa’s unbeaten run in the current Clausura season shows character and resilience. Coach Eduardo Fentanes will be frustrated with the stalemates but proud of his team’s overall performance to dodge defeats.
However, the end of Necaxa’s nine-game unbeaten streak is inevitable. Facing a formidable opponent against whom they have an extremely poor record will swing the advantage in favor of the visitors. The pressure could be too much for Necaxa to handle.
Necaxa have been on the verge of defeat in their last three Liga MX games but have found a late goal on all three occasions to secure a point. Against FC Juarez, Edgar Mendez scored a leveler in the 96th minute, while Diber Cambindo scored an 89th-minute equalizer against Toluca.
In the last match, Queretaro were gearing up to celebrate their first win of the Clausura 2024 season before Diego Gomez restored parity in the third minute of second-half stoppage time. This shows the resilience and fighting spirit of Necaxa.
Necaxa have scored 12 goals in seven games, which have come via seven different goal scorers. They have the fourth-best goals-per-game ratio in the league.
The attacking line will be quite content with their performance, as the primary attack-minded players are all responsible for finding the back of the net. Not relying on just one key striker is helping Necaxa score more goals.

In the last eight matches between these two clubs, Chivas have won seven, and only one match has ended in a draw, leaving Necaxa with no wins during this stint. This hands the psychological advantage to Chivas, who are eyeing a top-four finish this season.
Despite the record, securing a win over Necaxa will not be easy for Chivas. Due to the recent results, the hosts will be fired up. At this venue, they have already held the defending champions, Club America. Chivas will be wary of that and could be cautious on the pitch.
The Chivas defense will have to be sharp to keep the Necaxa forwards quiet in and around the penalty area. Conversely, the Necaxa defense will have to focus on attackers and the prolific midfielder Victor Guzman.
The 29-year-old has scored five goals in seven appearances. All five goals have come in the last three matches after Guzman bagged a brace against San Luis and Mazatlan and scored one against FC Juarez.
Across all competitions, Chivas have remained unbeaten in the last four games on the road. After losing 1-0 against Tigres UANL in January, Chivas held Tijuana to a 1-1 draw. After that, they beat San Luis 2-0 and defeated Forge FC in the Champions Cup.
The draw at Mazatlan extended their unbeaten away run to four games. Now, the 12-time champions are up against a team they have enjoyed playing against, and hence, they are favorites to extend their unbeaten away streak.
