Club León vs Puebla Prediction

Club León vs Puebla has been an entertaining fixture for the past few seasons, and this weekend could be another classic. The two sides need the win at all costs and will be going in with no fear of losing as they cannot sit back and defend for a draw.

While a draw would be a decent result for Puebla, as they sit 3rd in the table right now, there are chances of them slipping outside the top 4. If they drop points this weekend, with Cruz Azul and Atlas winning, they will be out of the driver’s seat in the race for the top 4.

At the same time, dropping points will be the worst thing possible for Club León. They are already 7th in the league table and will need a win to have any chance of making it to the top 4. A loss or draw could see them slip outside of the top 10 if the teams below them win.

We think this is going to be an exciting, fast-paced fixture where both teams are likely to get on the score sheet.

Club León Are Trying Hard Without The Results Going Their Way

Club León are doing all they can during their games but have just been unable to get the results they need. They have won just twice in the last five matches, with the worst of those results being a convincing defeat to Tigres, who are fighting for the title.

They started off their last five matches with a win over Juarez with a dominating performance. Despite creating several chances and taking 14 shots at goal, they managed to win just 1-0, thanks to Elías Hernández’s goal in the second half. Their defense was at its best as they restricted the opponents to just one shot on target.

Tigres handed them a tough lesson in the very next game after Ángel Mena failed to score from the penalty spot early in the first half. The León winger had his spot-kick saved, and that proved costly. André-Pierre Gignac and Luis Quiñones scored within 5 minutes of each other and handed the away side a 2-0 lead at half-time. Florian Thauvin added a third midway through the second half, and that was enough for the away side to leave Estadio León with all three points, and the home team very embarrassed.

They did manage to bounce back with a win over Mazatlán in the very next game week, and that could prove to be a crucial win come the end of the league stage. Santiago Ormeño scored a brace in the second half to give León a 2-0 lead, and the players were back in full confidence. Roberto Meraz pulled a goal back for the home side, but León managed to hold on and get the win. A draw or loss to Mazatlan, a side who are struggling this season, would have been a big blow to León as they are desperate to get into the top 4.

However, they could not build on the result and dropped points against two sides below them in the league table. Ángel Mena scored an equalizer against Queretaro to get them a point, but no player managed to step up and deliver against Atletico de San Luis last weekend, and they lost 2-0. A loss this weekend opens up an opportunity for potentially two or three teams to overtake them.

Puebla Are Slipping Up At The Wrong Time And Could End Up Outside The Top 4

Puebla were the team to beat until match week 10, a point at which they were still unbeaten in the Clausura season.

They were touted – against all odds as the team with the lowest net worth – to go all the way and finish on top of the table, but recent results have ended their hopes of a top 2 finish. They are now 6 points off Tigres and Pachuca, and to make this worse; they are in danger of falling outside of the top 4 spots.

Their downfall began with a 2-1 defeat at Atletico de San Luis – a side that has been surprising the teams above them in the league table in recent weeks. Juan Manuel Sanabria handed the home side an unlikely lead in the first half before Martín Barragán equalized for Puebla with 2 minutes to go in the second half. Just when it looked set for the two teams to share points, Efrain Orona scored to get San Luis all three points and hand Puebla their first loss of the season.

Santos Laguna also managed to surprise the touted title challengers but were unable to run away with the three points unlike San Luis. Israel Reyes and Martín Barragán gave Puebla a 2-0 lead at the 74th minute, but two quickfire goals saw the two teams share points. Eduardo Aguirre and Leónardo Suárez scored in the 78th and 80th minute, respectively, to stun the home fans and leave Puebla speechless.

Toluca took advantage of Puebla’s form and pulled off another unlikely win of the season. They took a 2-0 lead via Kevin Castañeda and Valber Huerta before Israel Reyes scored Puebla’s lone goal in the 2-1 defeat.

Pumas added to Puebla’s misery last weekend by holding them to a 2-2 draw and dominating throughout the game. The home side took the lead from Pablo Parra’s spot kick before Maximiliano Araújo made it 2-0 minutes before half time. Rogério scored for Pumas just before the half time whistle, and the momentum had shifted.

The away side came out all guns blazing after the break, and forced Puebla to defend deep. Jorge Ruvalcaba finally managed to get the equalizer for Pumas in the 86th minute and that was enough for them to leave Estadio Cuauhtemoc with a point in their bag.

But a point alone might not be enough for them this weekend, because they could end up anywhere between 4th and 6th place if the teams immediately below them all come out of the weekend having picked up wins.
