Club América are the ones in form and should be able to get the win over Tigres UANL this week.
Club América (-135) at BetMGM Sportsbook
Club América are on a 6-match winning run and will be keen on keeping that run going. They are up against Tigres UANL, who are unbeaten in their last four games, but have drawn three of them.
The two sides are separated by just one point after 11 matches, but there are two teams in between them in the table. Club America sit 2nd in the table – just two points behind leaders Monterrey with a game in hand. On the other hand, Tigres UANL are 5th with 21 points after slipping up in the last three matches and dropping six points.
Club America are also on a 7-match winning streak against Tigres UANL. They have beaten them in every game since the loss in the 2019 Apertura knockout stage.
The last meeting was in the Clausura earlier this year, and they won it 2-0. Diego Valdés and Henry Martín scored for the away side, while Tigres UANL’s Guido Pizarro was sent off in the 89th minute when the score was 1-0.
The home side had managed to keep 62% of the possession but could not get past the away defense. They managed just five shots in the game, of which three were on target.
Club America made the most of their possession and had 15 shots at goal, despite having just 38% of the ball. Their 8 shots on target saw the Tigres keeper making three saves, but they still managed to get two past him and seal the win.
The last time Tigres UANL defeated Club America was in the knockout stages of the Apertura 2019 edition. Goals from Guido Pizarro and André-Pierre Gignac helped them come back from 1-0 down at halftime to seal a 2-1 win in the first leg. They scored with both their shots on target and were lucky as VAR ruled out three penalties for Club America in the match.
Club América has a shock start to the season in Apertura as they managed just one win in their first five matches. They had lost three of those games and had picked up just 4 points.
They kicked off the season at home and were held to a goalless draw by Atlas. They were up against current league leaders Monterrey next and were beaten 3-2. Club América had a penalty ruled out by VAR in stoppage time after they let slip of a 2-1 lead in the second half.
They finally managed to get their first win of the season when they faced Toluca at home in game week three. Richard Sánchez scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute to seal a dramatic win and seal the three points.
However, they were then involved in pre-season games for the European sides and suffered in the league. They faced Chelsea and Manchester City in back-to-back matches and were beaten 2-1 in both games.
They returned to league action against Club Tijuana 10 days later and were beaten 2-0. That was followed by another friendly game, but this time they managed to hold Champions League winners Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw.
However, they could not carry the momentum from the draw into their next league match and were beaten 3-2 by Club Leon. Ángel Mena scored from the spot in the 105th minute of the match to seal the win for the home side.
However, that dramatic ending added fuel to the fire inside the players, and they have been on a stunning run since. They were involved in another friendly match against Los Angeles FC and won it via the penalty shootout.
They are now on a stunning 6-match winning run and that has included a 7-0 win over Cruz Azul. They have also managed 3-0 wins over Pachuca and Pumas UNAM, while edging out wins over Juarez FC (2-1) and Queretaro (1-0).
In their last match, Club America defeated Mazatlan away from home after coming from behind. Diego Valdés scored an own goal to help the home side take the lead before he scored in the right side in the 39th minute to level things up.
Henry Martín scored just before the halftime whistle to make it 2-1 and Sebastián Cáceres sealed the 3-1 win with an early goal in the second half.
Roger Martínez is still out injured but is expected back in the matchday squad soon.
Tigres UANL are the side to beat this season as they are making it hard for their opponents in every single game. They have done well so far, but are on a slump right now. Despite the dip in form, they have managed to remain unbeaten in their last four games.
Tigres UANL started the season with a loss when they hosted Cruz Azul. They fought back to equalize twice, but Santiago Giménez scored from the spot in the 93rd minute to seal the win for the away side.
However, they did not let the late loss affect them, and they went on a 5-match winning streak. Tigres UANL started with a 1-0 win over Mazatlan and then followed it up with a win over Club Tijuana by the same scoreline.
They defeated Atlas in the next game by 2-0, and they made it 4 clean sheets in a row with a 1-0 win over Juarez FC. They finally conceded a goal when Ariel Nahuelpán scored from the spot for Queretaro, but still managed to get the three points with Nico López and Jordy Caicedo scoring in the 2-1 victory.
Their winning run came to an end when they traveled to face Pachuca. Tigres UANL were beaten 2-0, with Nicolás Ibáñez scoring a brace for the home side.
They bounced back quickly with a 2-0 win over Santos Laguna, but have struggled since. They were held to a goalless draw by current table-toppers Monterrey and then to a 1-1 draw by Pumas UNAM.
The unbeaten run stretched to four matches, but it was once again a goalless draw for Tigres UANL. Club Necaxa did all they could to prevent the home side from scoring and allowed just two of the 17 shots to be on target. Tigres had 60% of the ball, but managed to create the same number of big chances as their opponents – one.
No player is injured or ruled out for Tigres UANL when they face Club America this week.
