Goals could come quick and fast this Saturday between America and Queretaro. While Queretaro have been involved in a number of high-scoring shootouts to start off the season, America are gradually picking up steam under the guidance of new manager Santiago Solari.
Whether it be due to a dominant game for America, or Queretaro simply finding themselves lost in another 4+ goal game, this clash at the Estadio Azteca shouldn’t fail to entertain.
Expect some fireworks in this one,

Here’s some quick trivia. Heading into Week 6, which Liga MX team is currently sitting at 2nd in the league table for goals scored and tied for 3rd for goals allowed?
If your answer is America’s next opponent, you are correct!
Queretaro have been an intriguing squad this season that have had three games since January with four or more goals. Whether it be through a 3-1 loss, a 4-1 defeat, or their most recent 3-1 demolition of Pachuca, Los Gallos Blancos have been an erratic bunch that have created and allowed plenty of opportunities each and every week.
As for America, cautiousness has undoubtedly been a bit more of the norm. Their low-key success in the start of 2021, although quiet, seems to be building towards something greater for Solari.
And with a never-ending desire from fans to see one-sided results for America, this weekend could be a chance for the Mexico City club to truly hit their high gear at the historic Estadio Azteca.
Fair or not, there are incredibly high expectations for America in each and every season. Winning games, and winning titles for that matter, isn’t the ultimate goal — it’s the minimum.
Fans and critics expect thrashings through enjoyable attack-minded soccer week in and week out. In the recent past when fans were allowed into the Azteca, they weren’t afraid to boo America or the Mexican national team if they had a lead but weren’t entertaining enough.
Solari, in his early days with America, seems to be getting the winning part right so far. With three victories, one loss, and one draw, there aren’t too many negatives that come to mind when thinking of his start to the year.
That said, fans have urged him to be more proactive and aggressive with his tactics. It’s a constant itch for America supporters and keeping in mind that Queretaro have been defensively limp, this could be a good chance for Solari to finally provide that scratch.
Remember, there’s much more to Queretaro than just allowing goals.
Thanks to a midfield revival through the efforts of newcomer Antonio Valencia, Queretaro have been thrilling to watch in recent weeks. With Valencia pushing forward, others like Jose Gurrola, Angel Sepulveda, and Fernando Madrigal have benefitted with goalscoring opportunities that have arrived.
As mentioned earlier though, Queretaro remains weak when it comes to halting attacking runs and shots from the opposition. In just their last two games alone, Queretaro allowed a whopping total of 40 shots.
At the risk of repeating myself from last week, this Saturday could finally be the Liga MX debut of one of the most exciting new talents to arrive in Mexico’s 1st division. Developed in Real Madrid’s academy and currently on loan with America, 23-year-old Alvaro Fidalgo has now had a week under his belt with his new teammates.
And although this might seem early to make an appearance, Solari has brought the player over to have an instant impact in the Clausura tournament. Blessed with speed, vision and excellent passing, Fidalgo could be the missing link between a straightforward America win and a headline-grabbing one.
Now given some time to adjust, can America’s next big star shine for his new club this weekend?
