Atlético de San Luis and Club Tijuana have collected 14 points from their first 12 matches of the season. The home side has just three wins so far, while the away side has registered 4 in their matches.
However, San Luis have done slightly better in defense than Tijuana this season. They have conceded 14 goals and lost four times, while the away side has conceded 19 goals and lost six times.
The last time these two sides met was in Clausura earlier this year and the game ended in a draw. Lisandro López opened the scoring for Club Tijuana in the 73rd minute from the spot, but they could not hold on to it until the end. Facundo Waller equalized for the away side in the 85th minute to help them get the point that proved crucial for them in securing a 10th placed finish, and making it to the playoffs.
Atletico de San Luis’s last win over Club Tijuana was back in the 2021 edition of Apertura. They had just 39% of the ball, but were 3-1 up at half time. Germán Berterame scored a hattrick before Lucas Rodríguez pulled one back for the away side in stoppage time.
Facundo Waller scored the lone goal of the second half to make it 4-1 and seal the win for the home side.
Club Tijuana’s last win over San Luis in the league was in the 2019 edition of Apertura. They were dominated by the home side, but still managed to score three goals in 13 minutes to take a 3-0 lead in the 64th minute. Ariel Nahuelpán got a brace, while Leonel Miranda added another before Oscar Macías pulled one back for San Luis.
Nicolás Ibáñez scored deep into stoppage time to make it 3-2, but that just made the scoreline respectable and nothing more.
Atlético de San Luis have not been at their best this season and have managed to win just three matches. Two of those three wins have come in the last three games, but that has helped them get into the playoff spots.
Their season started off in the worst possible way – a home defeat to Club Leon. Lucas Di Yorio scored in the 93rd minute to help the away side seal the win, after Byron Castillo’s own goal helped the home side get level in the 77th minute.
San Luis did well to bounce back quickly as they edged out a 1-0 win over Guadalajara in the next match. Facundo Waller scored the lone goal in the first half stoppage time, and that saw them get their first points of the season.
However, the win could not spark the momentum, and they ended up going on a 7-match winless streak. They were beaten again in gameweek three when they faced Monterrey. Rogelio Funes Mori scored the winner in the 83rd minute from the spot to help the league leaders grab all three points.
The loss was followed by three draws for San Luis, and they could not break the deadlock in two matches. Gonzalo Sosa handed the lead to Mazatlan in the 36th minute from the spot again, before Abel Hernández equalized for the away side three minutes later. There were no goals after that in the game and the two teams shared points. Cruz Azul and Puebla held San Luis to goalless draws in the following games, and then Juarez had them share points with a 1-1 draw.
Things got worse for San Luis as Club Necaxa defeated them in the next match. Milton Giménez’s own goal helped San Luis take the lead in the 10th minute, but Facundo Batista and Fernando Madrigal scored in the 14th and 34th minute to help the away side go ahead and seal the win.
Abel Hernández scored from the spot in the 56th minute to help San Luis go ahead against Queretaro, but Jose Enrique Angulo equalized in the 94th minute to leave the away side still searching for their second win of the season.
They finally managed to end the winless streak by beating Pumas UNAM, and then followed it up with a win over Toluca. However, they could not make it a hat-trick of wins and were thrashed 4-1 by Santos Laguna last week.
No player is injured or suspended, but Javier Güemez has 4 yellow cards and will be suspended for the next match if he is booked against Club Tijuana.
Club Tijuana ended the Clausura season in poor form with no wins in their last seven matches. Their start to the Apertura season was in a similar fashion, and were winless after three games.
They kicked off the season with a 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM away from home. Lucas Rodríguez scored the opening goal of the match for Tijuana from the spot, before Diogo equalized for the home side early in the second half.
They were then beaten in back-to-back matches by Tigres UNAL and Juarez FC. Tijuana failed to score in both games and ended up conceding thrice.
Club Tijuana finally managed to end the 10-match winless stream across seasons by beating Club America at home. Lisandro López and Joaquín Montecinos scored in either half to help them get the three points.
They followed it up with a 2-1 win over Atlas and then went on to beat Mazatlan 2-0 at home. With 10 points from their first six matches, things suddenly looked good for Tijuana, but that became a distraction for the players.
Since then, they have played six matches and won just once. The lone win came against Cruz Azul away from home, while the only other game they got a point in was at home to Puebla in a 3-3 draw.
In their last three matches, they have been beaten by Queretaro, Santos Laguna and Monterrey. To make things worse, Tijuana have not scored a single goal in those matches and do not look like a side that would make it to the playoffs.
They currently sit 11th in the table, and know that their destiny is still in their hands. They are two points clear of 13th placed Club Leon, who occupy the first spot outside the playoff zone.
No player is injured or suspended for the game against Atletico de San Luis.
