The club nabbed a point against Tijuana, Pumas, and Tigres and dropped all points against Necaxa, Pachuca, Mazatlan, and Leon. Now facing Club America, Atlas will be the underdogs.

Club America won a record-extending 14th Liga MX title last year. They are now two titles clear of their fiercest rivals, Chivas Guadalajara. However, the hunger for another title still persists, and the club will be eager to defend its crown this season. Club America have won five, drawn three, and lost one of their nine league games so far. The solitary loss came against a high-flying Pachuca side before the defending champions were held to an unexpected 2-2 draw against Mazatlan over a week ago.
