Sunday evening at Lumen Field the Seattle Sounders will welcome Necaxa for the last fixture in the group. The Sounders currently occupy the top spot with three points with a better goal differential than Minnesota United. Necaxa is sitting with zero points but with an away win they could qualify for the knockout phase.
The Seattle Sounders defeated Minnesota United 2-0 just over a week ago to kick things off in the group. The Sounders were dealt an advantage in the 64th minute when the Loons picked up a red card and had to play the rest of the match down a man. In the late stages, Seattle finally broke the deadlock in the 87th when Jordan Morris finally breached the keeper.
Meanwhile, Necaxa suffered a 1-0 setback against Minnesota United on Tuesday night. Between Liga MX and Leagues Cup play, Los Rayos have only obtained one victory in their last five matches when they kicked off their Apertura campaign at the beginning of July. Despite the hiccup, Necaxa controlled most of the match against Minnesota, possessing 64 percent of the ball control while massively outshooting their opponent 30 to seven.
Here, we will break down the betting odds and share our favourite picks for Seattle Sounders vs. Necaxa.
The books have pegged the home side in this affair as the front-runner to capture a win within 90 minutes. Seattle is priced at -167 on the moneyline, while Necaxa is listed at +400 to pull off the upset. If both teams remain tied after 90, the draw is stamped down at +290.

It was fitting last week that Seattle Sounders club legend Jordan Morris bagged the game-winner to start the club's story in the 2024 Leagues Cup. The 29-year-old has 229 matches under his belt with Seattle and has found the back of the net 77 times in all competitions played. This year with the Sounders, a healthy Morris is bad news for the opposition as he has nine goals in 25 matches in MLS play.
Leading the Sounders in assists this campaign, Albert Rusnak is having one of his best seasons in years in MLS. The Slovakian international has amassed nine assists through 23 appearances in 2024. The only season Rusnak hit double digits in assists was in 2017 when he collected 13 as a member of Real Salt Lake. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder isn’t shy about hitting the back of the net, he has 57 career MLS goals in 250 contests.
On loan product leading his club in assists, Jose Paradela will need to be a factor if Necaxa have any hope of reaching the knockout phase. Since joining Necaxa in January, the 25-year-old Argentine has accrued six assists in a span of 22 games. He also had found his name inked on the scoresheet on multiple occasions, garnering five career goals.
Logging quality minutes in his first taste of Mexican soccer is Augustin Palavecino who joined Necaxa this summer on loan from River Plate. In 136 matches with the previous club, he stockpiled 13 goals to his resume. The 27-year-old played in 87 minutes of action against Minnesota, where he went 84 percent in accurate passes going 37-for-44.
Lumen Field is the not fortress it once was for the Sounders, but they still maintain solid numbers proving a difficult place to pick up results. In 13 home matches this year, the Sounders have only been defeated twice. Their rigid home defence has shown up as they have only conceded 11 times. Necaxa on the other hand haven’t performed as well as they like to on the road. Los Rayos are winless in their last five away matches, and in their last nine matches in all competitions, they have failed to keep a clean sheet. The visitors are outmatched in roster comparisons and playing on the road where they have struggled, the Sounders should shine through to wrap up the group stage phase in the 2024 Leagues Cup.
