Never in the history of the Canadian men’s program have they enjoyed this much attention it’s receiving, not only in Canada, but worldwide. Having the likes of world-class players like Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich and Johnathan David at Lille has helped the men’s squad's reputation on the global stage. In the FIFA rankings, Canada just cracked into the top 50 currently sitting 49th overall. The books have Canada as a long shot to capture this year’s edition of the Copa America.
Canada got no favours when the groups were drawn up in Group A having to face the reigning World Cup and defending Copa America champions Argentina in their first match. Les Rouges have made a point of facing tougher opponents outside their region to help prep their side for major competitions and expose them to what top-tier soccer programs are like.
Newly appointed head coach Jesse Marsch will have his hands full heading into the tournament with two games under his belt with the Canadian program. This tournament for the Reds is all about building towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup which they’re co-hosting. Canada will be competitive in all three matches but in the final third in attack, we will see Canada struggle with the lack of their quality to finish on their chances. Their high pressing and clogging the middle of the pitch might frustrate their opponents giving them a slim chance to pull off the upset as Canada will most likely be priced in the mid-plus-money range to collect a maximum result in each of their three group stage matches.
Don’t expect Canada to get out of the group stage despite this roster having some nice pieces at its disposal.

Heading into the group stage Canada was the biggest favourite to get eliminated in the opening juncture of the tournament priced at -250. That is a very high number to wager on but could make for a nice parlay dance partner if there is another bet that is appealing to take. The only thing that is going Canada’s way is there is no pressure on them to advance out of the group stage, and when a team can play loose with no pressure there could be an upset along the way. Now with their first win in the tournament the odds have shifted to +110.
Currently, Canada has the highest odds to win Group A priced at +5100. Their opening match against Messi and Co was a resilient effort but ultimately fell short losing 2-0, hurting The Reds' chances of winning Group A. Canada advancing to the knockout stage would be a dream for the country, winning the group would take a miracle considering they have Argentina and Chile in the same group. Coming off the 2022 World Cup it was clear Canada was still far away from competing against the top nations in the world. Canada has suffered a defeat to Argentina and still have to play Chile in their last group stage fixture. The outlier was their second match against Peru which they defeated 1-0 on Tuesday evening, preventing their chances from finishing last in Group A. In friendlies over the last couple of years, Canada has shown they can compete with top nations defeating Japan in 2022 or drawing France on June 9. Peru has more tournament and big-game experience giving them the edge over Canada. As stated above this tournament is a learning curve for the Canadian program heading into the 2026 World Cup where they will face the pressure.

Columbia the hosting nation there were security concerns, so Canada withdrew and canceled their training camp.
