New York Golf Club vs. Los Angeles Golf Club Predictions

New York Golf Club vs. Los Angeles Golf Club

If the regulation match between these two teams is anything to go by, this first playoff game of the inaugural season TGL season is set to be a classic.

In that game, LA trailed 4-0 after 11 holes and was rated a 2% chance to win the match before it launched an audacious comeback.

Initially, it fought back to tie the score and then completed the comeback win in overtime.

New York had been superb with the flat stick early in that contest but LA turned it around with stellar approach play.

If that is a good omen for LA then its position at the top of the table after regulation is another - they won four matches and its only defeat came in overtime (to Atlanta).

The team’s quality was confirmed with a victory last time out against the previously undefeated The Bay GC.

New York had a very different route to the playoffs, however.

It lost the first two matches and was looking at immediate cessation of hostilities only to come out fighting.

Two wins and an overtime loss were enough to drag them into the playoffs and the key to that was the return of Xander Schauffele who missed the opening match with an injury.

So we’re set up for West Coast against East Coast - and it should be a cracker.

Who will take the top ranking to the playoffs? Let’s find out.

Player Form Guide

New York Golf Club

Xander Schauffele

The two-time major champion in 2024 would have hoped to open TGL with a bang but injury delayed his start. He trails only his opponent Cameron Young for Driving Distance for the season among these two squads, but he has not looked his old self in 2025 and will be looking for a spark to reignite his form.

Rickie Fowler

He unleashed the longest drive of the year at the 13th hole in the very first match and has been a steady team man since. Three of the five longest holed putts of the season came in the match between these two teams, and Fowler’s was second-longest at 36’7”. He’s a sure package and, despite his quiet demeanor, is not afraid of the limelight.

Cameron Young

A prodigious driver he ranks third for Driving Distance for the season and has recorded the longest drive at the 9th, 10th, and 15th holes that will be played this week. His 38’6” holed putt against LA in Match 10 is also the longest holed putt of the season and, despite a poor reputation on the greens, he has the highest Average Putt Made number of everyone in this match. Quite the package.

Collin Morikawa

With a 3-0-5 record in Singles he is one of only six players to be undefeated in singles this season. It’s a record that is better than his individual stats but being greater than the sum of your parts is not a bad equation. On the PGA Tour, he has impressed in recent weeks at Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass.

Tommy Fleetwood

Like his team-mate Morikawa he is undefeated when playing Singles. His record reads 3-0-3. Meanwhile, of players who have hit at least 10 drives he ranks the most accurate (9-of-11 for 81.82%). He’s finished top 25 in every start around the world since last year’s British Open and his excellent Ryder Cup record is a reminder that’s he’s a good team man. He holds the longest drive at the 11th hole.

Sahith Theegala

A Californian by birth as well as a Californian by team, Theegala has not had a good year on the PGA Tour failing to register even one top 10. On the other hand, his 28’7” holed putt in Match 10 against NY was the fifth-longest holed putt of the season.

The New York’s Improvement Faces a Tough LA Challenge

With just 15 holes of action taking in Triples and Singles play there is no doubt that this format is highly volatile.

In recent weeks New York has found its touch but they still rank behind the opposition in so many ways.

Let’s just reiterate: LA’s memories of the match between the two teams in regulations are strong and good because they recovered from 4-0 down and stood tall in overtime.

LA also ended the season top of the table to rank first heading into the playoffs.

LA won four matches in regulation, New York two.

LA also has two players who are yet to be defeated in Singles play.

And Morikawa and Fleetwood are among the most consistent in world golf right now.

West Coast is the call - take LA at -138 with Caesars Sportsbook.
