New York Golf Club vs. Atlanta Drive Golf Club Final Series 2nd Match Predictions

New York Golf Club vs. Atlanta Drive Golf Club

With two holes to play in the first final, New York held the aces leading 5-4.

But Atlanta Drive kicked back to win both of the final holes and take a 1-0 advantage into the second final.

Patrick Cantlay delivered the decisive blow on Hole 15 and, what’s more, he downed his good friend and Ryder Cup teammate Xander Schauffele in the process.

NYGC’s Justin Thomas was enjoying the fiery atmosphere.

“It had a little more hostility kind of vibe that I’m sure other athletes deal with on a week-to-week basis,” he said.

“We don’t necessarily get that outside of the team events. It was cool. We wanted to show off a bit and quiet the crowd ... it was awesome watching these guys make putts and come through in the clutch when we needed to.”

The par-5 fourth hole, Riptide, saw plenty of action.

Thomas hit the longest drive of the season there at 331 yards, Billy Horschel Horschel followed up with the closest second shot hitting it to 9'0", and Cantlay made a nine-foot eagle putt, the longest putt made on the hole.

Will Atlanta Drive close it out? Let’s find out.

Player Form Guide

New York Golf Club

Rickie Fowler

Despite his measured demeanor, Fowler is not afraid of the limelight and has enjoyed this first TGL season. He does, however, have a Single record of only 3-6-5. He ranks highest of all players in the final for Average Putt Made this season (9’7”), is 13-for-14 at Greens in Regulation, and 16-for-21 at Driving Accuracy.

Xander Schauffele

A slow starter in this first season after an injury but he has enjoyed it and will be desperate for revenge on his friend Cantlay. Has a Singles record of 4-2-2 and is rated the best performer in the final across the season for Around the Green with an average proximity of 6’3”. Missed only one green in regulation all season.

Cameron Young

Has impressed all season not only with his driving - which everyone knew was good - but also his putting - which is typically the weakest part of his game. Has a Singles record of 5-1-6 and has pounded the longest drive this season of all players in the final at 327.9 yards.

Patrick Cantlay

He will not only have enjoyed defeating his friend Schauffele for the win, he will mention it for many weeks to come. Owns a Singles record of 3-5-4. It was slightly ironic that he drained that record eagle putt and the winning putt because his Average Putt Made figure has been bettered by all but four players this season. He’s also only 7-for-12 at hitting Greens in Regulation.

Billy Horschel

Comes into this second final with an excellent Singles record of 7-3-2 and might have the Ryder Cup on his mind. He’s been close before and is desperate to play. This is a reminder that he has the games for team golf. He’s 12-for-12 at hitting Greens in Regulation this season - only Keegan Bradley equals that.

Justin Thomas

Loves the energy of TGL and has a Singles record that reads 5-5-2. Hitting the short grass has not been his forte though - at 14-for-22 and 64% he ranks lowest of those in the final for Driving Accuracy. Was also superb last week when the runner-up in the Valspar Championship.

New York Can Bite Back

TGL will be hoping for a sensational finale to its inaugural season and we should back New York to provide it.

They can win this second match, force the decider TGL dreams of, and we’ll be on them at an inflated price.

It’s not just about what TGL would want, the stats remain in New York’s favor.

New York has hit 74.3% of Greens in Regulation, Atlanta Drive just 65.7%.

New York also bests Atlanta Drive for Average Putt Made and Around the Green stats

The first match was close. “Our golf was plenty good enough to have won the match tonight,” said Young.

“Probably one of the more serious matches that we've played,” said Schauffele. “You can tell everyone was trying to win, and them being up one is a big advantage.

“But, in my eyes, we lost our first two matches of TGL, so this technically isn't something that we haven't already faced this exact season. It'll be a fun go tomorrow.”
