Los Angeles Golf Club vs. The Bay Golf Club Predictions

Los Angeles Golf Club vs. The Bay Golf Club

It’s the last week of the regular season and it begins in sensational style with a clash between the two best teams in TGL so far.

We could be in line for a tight contest, too, because, after some decisive wins in the early weeks of the inaugural season, four of the last seven matches have been decided by just one point.

It’s also the case that these two teams have proved themselves in more than just wins.

The Bay and LA also top the rankings for total holes won, triples holes won, singles holes won, par-5 holes won, and fewest holes lost.

The Bay has the edge because it is undefeated. They opened with a 9-2 defeat of New York and were 6-3 winners last time out against Jupiter Links.

In-between they edged Atlanta 6-5 and Boston Common 5-4.

LA thrashed Jupiter Links 12-1 in their first outing and backed that up with a 6-2 defeat of Boston Common.

Atlanta got the better of them in a tight affair (5-6) before they rebounded with a 5-4 downing of New York.

Will last week have any impact? All three of the LA players had the week off while The Bay’s Shane Lowry and Min Woo Lee played nicely at PGA National.

Who will take the top ranking to the playoffs? Let’s find out.

Player Form Guide

Los Angeles Golf Club

Tommy Fleetwood

The Englishman has finished top-25 in every start since last year’s British Open and he was fifth last time out at Torrey Pines. Meanwhile, in TGL, he is 7-for-7 at hitting fairways, has hit the longest drive at the 13th, and holds nearest-the-pin honors at the 12th. He’s tied for the lead in ShortPutt Percentage being 100% at putts from inside 10 feet.

Collin Morikawa

Second in The Sentry in his first start of 2025, the Californian has been T17 in his two subsequent starts. He is undefeated in TGL singles (3-0-3). Otherwise, his stats are not too great. He ranks joint last in the match for fairways hit (6-of-9) and has the worst Average Putt Made yardage of 4.3 feet.

Sahith Theegala

Six PGA Tour starts into 2025 and Theegala has just one top 30 finish and that was only T17, although it was last time out. He ranks alongside Morikawa in being only 6-for-9 at hitting fairways but, in contrast to his team-mate, he tops the Average Putt Made numbers with a figure of 11.6 feet.

Min Woo Lee

A born showman, the Aussie has enjoyed TGL. He’s taken aim at seven fairways and he’s hit all of them. Impressive enough, but at 332.6 yards he’s hitting his drives further than anyone in either squad - and none of the other seven have bettered his Average Drive Ball Speed of 190.4 mph. He’s also the only player in TGL to have chipped in twice from off the green.

Shane Lowry

The Irishman has absolutely taken to this format, the brainchild of his good friend Rory McIlroy, and he is an integral part of a fine squad. That said, he’s struggled in the singles (1-4-1) and his stats aren’t great. Sometimes the real value of a team man is in what he allows others to achieve and that’s the case with Lowry.

Wyndham Clark

The 2023 US Open champion has been one of the stars of this first TGL season. He’s hit the longest drive of the campaign (360.3 yards) and he has the best singles record (5-0-3 - in fact, he’s the only player in the competition with five wins). He has no top five on the PGA Tour since last April but TGL suits his firepower both from the tee and on the green.

The Bay Can Make the Playoffs

LAGC is not lacking as a package.

Tommy Fleetwood is a stellar team man while the two young Californians Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala have plenty of pep.

But The Bay can make it into the playoffs with a 100% record and as the top-ranked team.

They have the chutzpah of Min Woo Lee, the dynamism of Wyndham Clark, and the good vibes of Shane Lowry.

They must also be pretty excited in the knowledge that their fourth squad man - Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg - will return for the playoffs.

Aberg has been the standout elite player of 2025 and his team can live up to that billing, too.

At the least, this match-up should be a pick’ em so taking The Bay as outsiders is the call.
