These two teams have something in common, although neither would probably like to admit it: they both got off to appalling starts in the competition.
In the opening match of TGL, back at the start of January, New York Golf Club was humbled 9-2 by The Bay Golf Club and a week later TGL co-founder Tiger Woods debuted for his team Jupiter Links.
The “Eye of the Tiger” played over the speakers and, as he entered the arena, Woods shouted: “You ready for this?”
His team was not: They got thumped 12-1.
New York Golf Club also lost 4-0 in its second match but Jupiter Links revived its season with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Boston Common Golf.
The young Korean star Tom Kim made a huge difference for Jupiter. Naturally bubbly and confident, he was well-suited to the requirements of TGL which calls for flashy shots and interaction with team-mates.
When he holed an eight-footer at No. 9 to keep the match tied he yelled towards some loud opposition fans: “What’d you say?!”
NYGC, meanwhile, has consistently struggled.
“We’ve not holed a putt yet,” Matt Fitzpatrick said of the team and in that second match Atlanta Drive holed a combined 65 feet of putts against NYGC’s total of just 15 feet.
Cameron Young insisted, however: “It was a blast and I think we’ll do better next time.”
Who will take the honors this week? Let’s find out.

The veteran has played in both of the opening encounters and has undoubtedly enjoyed himself. You also sense that Tom Kim’s inclusion in the second match lifted his performance because he warms to the youngster’s vibe. Since that second match, his mother has passed away, forcing his withdrawal from last week’s Genesis Invitational.
Kisner has probably hit the most-watched shot on TGL so far but it wasn’t a good one. From a greenside trap he thinned his ball and it flew into the fans via a clip off the pin. It left Tiger Woods in hysterics, but it ought to be remembered that Kisner very nearly holed the chip shot that followed. It didn’t go in but it is a reminder of his fighting qualities.
“The kid is a stud,” Woods said of him after match two. “He’s young, fearless, got so much potential in the game of golf. It’s gonna be fun for him to showcase not only his tremendous talent, but the personality that we know on Tour and that we enjoy.” He’s a shot-maker and, to put it simply, a show-off. He’s made for TGL.

A New Yorker in reality as well as in TGL, Young smashed a huge 345-yard drive in his debut last time out and provided the one high point in the season thus far for NYGC. He’s very strong from the tee, strong into the green, and only has a weakness when he has the putter in hand. It explains why he has five major championship top 10 finishes but no PGA Tour win.
In finishing fourth in Japan at the end of 2024 it looked like the popular Californian was set to rediscover the form that had revitalized his career in the first half of 2023. It might have been a mirage, however. Four starts into 2025 he has rarely looked near his best and has failed to break 73 in four of his last six rounds.
Quietly, without many seeming to have noticed, the Englishman is in something of a slump. The 2022 US Open champion has not recorded a top 10 finish since the start of June - and he’s only managed one top 20 in that period. It’s a rough stretch and last week at Torrey Pines was no different: he failed to break 74 in three of his four laps.

Are the prices correct in this match?!?
It seems there is undue concentration on the veteran (and part-time) status of Woods and Kisner.
But the introduction of Kim quite clearly boosted his teammates and they hung tough to win in overtime last time out with two nearest the pin wins.
Jupiter can ride that wave but this bet is not only about what Jupiter can achieve.
It’s also about the poor form of the NYGC trio. Fowler is struggling, Fitzpatrick is struggling and Young missed the cut last week.
Moreover, there is the question of suitability to the task.
Kim, Woods and Kisner look a far better fit for the razzamatazz of the format than Fowler, Fitzpatrick and Young who are all introverts and awkward in the spotlight.
Take Jupiter to munch on the Big Apple.
