It’s the one we’ve been waiting for!
When the schedule for TGL Golf was released, the initial scramble was to see when Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy - the co-founders of the indoor tournament - would be going head-to-head.
That moment is Monday night.
Woods has already made his TGL debut but it didn’t go well: a chastening 12-1 loss for his Jupiter team (Woods, Kevin Kisner and Max Homa) against Los Angeles Golf Club (Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala).
Clips of Tiger flooded social media in the aftermath but that was for him doubling up in laughter as Kisner’s thinned bunker shot flew off the flatstick at bullet speed to endanger everyone and anyone around him.
That was game two of the regular season and the third one-sided contest out of three.
Previously, New York had suffered 9-2 and 4-0 defeats to The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive GC respectively.
Woods again has Kisner for company on Monday night - and hopefully for more than just comic entertainment - while youngster Tom Kim replaces Homa in the Jupiter line-up.
For Boston Common’s opener, Rory McIlroy has the experienced duo of Adam Scott and United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.
And, you’ve guessed it, the order of play just so happens to have thrown up Woods v McIlroy in the opening hole of singles.
One key so far has been the strategic use of the Hammer.
It can be played/thrown at any time to increase the value of each hole to two points. But only if the opponent accepts.
Boston starts with it on Monday.
Stats are being kept by the official site and putting has been key so far.
LA won the ‘Short Putting’ category 80% to 25% when beating Jupiter 12-1 while Bay GC were 100% with their short putts compared to New York’s 25%.
Last time, Atlanta (75%) and New York (80%) were pretty evenly matched on the short putts but in the ‘Medium Putting’ category, Atlanta were 33% to New York’s 0%.
Atlanta also scrambled much better: 75% to 50%.

Triples: Holes 1-9 - Each team of three playing in alternate-shot format
Singles: Holes 10-15 - One-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player from each team plays a total of two full holes
Tiger Woods
As co-founder, Tiger will understand the nuances and strategy better than most but you still have to hit the shots. And his honest assessment after Jupiter’s heavy opening loss? “I think the people here, they got to see how bad pros can be. It was just a boat race. Oh, my goodness. What’s our teammate Tom Kim thinking right now. Oh, my god.” And of his fitness? “Walking is not the issue. It’s my game that is not very good!”
Kevin Kisner
Kisner made the highlight reels for his comical bunker shot but it’s a little surprising that he hasn’t been benched after a poor display in the opener (0-2 in singles play). Back on the PGA TOUR, the Ryder Cup vice-captain has missed six of his last seven cuts and is 0-for-1 in 2025 so there’s not too much confidence there.
Tom Kim
Kim has shown he’s up for the fight and loves the buzz of team golf during his two Presidents Cup appearances. He looks a good fit for this although he’s had a slow start to 2025 with 65th in the Sony Open and MC at The American Express.
Rory McIlroy
Like Tiger, Rory has a built-in advantage having helped devise the format and practised it. But unlike Tiger his game already looks good after a charge up the weekend leaderboard secured fourth place in the Dubai Desert Classic where he ranked in the top 10 for finding fairways, greens hit and scrambling. He’ll be amped for his tournament debut.
Adam Scott
Scott is already up and running in 2025 with two decent efforts: 15th at The Sentry (10th for Putting Average) and 37th at the Dubai DC where he was 19th with a round to go. Scott is one of two Masters winners on the Boston team; Hideki Matsuyama (benched for this one) will be a strong addition down the line.
Keegan Bradley
The US Ryder Cup skipper continues to suggest he could still make the team for September’s showdown at Bethpage Black as a player. He’s teed it up in three events so far in 2025, posting T15 at both The Sentry and Farmers Insurance Open and sixth in the Sony Open.
We backed the favorite last time, taking -125 Atlanta to beat New York, and it played out.
The belief was that despite New York already having made its debut in the event, any perceived advantage was trumped by Atlanta’s better form, superior line-up and greater chemistry.
And it’s a similar situation here.
Tiger’s Jupiter has had a first look but that would appear to be the only reason to back the +125 ‘dogs.
Okay, the chemistry of Tiger, Kisner and Tom Kim should be good enough although Kis and Kim are different characters at opposite ends of the age spectrum.
The Boston Common trio of McIlroy, Scott and Bradley have been on the beat together for well over a decade, the trio playing their first Major together back in 2011 which Bradley won!
They know each other well from Ryder Cups, Presidents Cups and numerous battles on the PGA TOUR.
But this one is down to current prowess.
Tiger admits his game isn’t great, Kisner has no form and even Kim looks out of nick.
By contrast, McIlroy already has a fourth this season, Bradley a sixth and Scott a top 15.
Boston Common are short favorites but deserved ones. Back them at -175 with bet365.
