Although it may be seen as a sideshow, one interesting observation from the TGL so far is the impact it seems to be having on the PGA TOUR.
Take Tom Kim. His season was off to a sticky start - 65th Sony Open, missed cut The American Express - but on the TGL he was undoubtedly the star of the show in last week’s Tiger (Jupiter) v Rory (Boston) clash.
Boosted by that injection of adrenaline and confidence generated from outshining two of the game’s greats, Kim then rocked up at Pebble Beach and had a run at the title.
It’s a similar case with Rory and Billy Horschel. Both live, vibrant presences on the TGL, they headed back to the real stuff and finished first and ninth at Pebble.
Those bringing the most energy to the TGL are carrying that onto the PGA Tour.
McIlroy, the co-founder of TGL, will now want that to work the other way.
His Boston team suffered an opening 4-3 overtime loss to Tiger’s Kim-inspired Jupiter, Keegan Bradley having a putt to win it in regulation time but failing.
Boston were big favorites to win that match after Jupiter had been thrashed 12-1 by Los Angeles Golf Club in their opener.
In the outright betting, LAGC (1-0) heads into this one top of the board at +300, with Atlanta Drive (+320) and The Bay Golf Club (+350).
Boston Common has drifted out to +475 but that will change with a win here.
If LA can nail a second straight win after smashing Jupiter, they really could be viewed as the team to beat.
McIlroy, Scott and Bradley again suit up for Boston but there’s a change for LAGC with Tommy Fleetwood coming in for Sahith Theegala.

Rory McIlroy
TGL co-founder McIlroy returns to the SoFi Center in Palm Beach with a spring in his step after a commanding victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California. That 27th PGA TOUR title followed up a fourth place at the Dubai Desert Classic on his first start of 2025. McIlroy ranked 7th for Strokes Gained: Putting at Pebble and will want to find some sparkle on the greens here. He won one and halved one against Tiger in the singles last week.
Adam Scott
Scott nailed a 31 foot putt to tie the match at 3-3 and send it to overtime against Jupiter but the Aussie was left frustrated after losing his closest-to-the-pin chip from 38 yards to Kevin Kisner which ended the match. Scott opened his 2025 with 38th in Dubai and then got better each day (74-71-69-64) when tied 22nd at Pebble Beach.
Keegan Bradley
The US Ryder Cup skipper has been busy, posting T15 at both The Sentry and Farmers Insurance Open and sixth in the Sony Open before taking a backwards step with 65th (out of 80) at Pebble (72nd for Approach). He didn’t enjoy a great TGL debut, failing to win either singles (lost one) and losing his overtime nearest-the-pin overtime chip against Tom Kim.
Tommy Fleetwood
Fleetwood, as he’s shown in Ryder Cups, loves the vibe of team golf so should add plenty to the mix for LAGC on his first TGL start. The Englishman, a silver medallist in the Olympics last summer, has been solid in two 2025 starts, finishing 21st in the Dubai Desert Classic and 22nd at Pebble where he broke par all four days although struggled with the putter.
Collin Morikawa
The actual Californian in the team for Tuesday night, Morikawa is the only player in TGL so far to win both singles matches. A key part of that dominant 12-1 win first up, Morikawa is off to a strong start on the PGA TOUR. He was runner-up at The Sentry and 17th at Pebble Beach.
Justin Rose
Rose missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open after following a 69 with an 80 but came alive again at Pebble (he’d won there in 2023) to finish tied third, the Englishman holing out for eagle at the 72nd hole. Rose was the best putter on show in LA’s opening win and again looked good on the greens at Pebble.
It’s still a work in progress trying to figure out a betting strategy for TGL.
In such a short, funky format perhaps it’s smart just to blindly back the dog.
That worked last time when +125 Jupiter shocked -175 Boston.
Chemistry has been another angle while it’s also been noticeable that those who love and have thrived in team golf are flourishing in TGL.
Tom Kim is the prime example. The infectious 22-year-old has been a standout for the International team at the Presidents Cup and his energy definitely carried Tiger and Kisner to victory in that Jupiter-Boston showdown.
If that’s the case, close friends and teammates Rose and Fleetwood - two brilliant performers for Europe in the Ryder Cup - will make LA a dynamic presence.
Add in the steely determination of Morikawa and LAGC seem justifiable favorites.
But I just feel that Rory’s Boston will do enough to get the ‘W’.
McIlroy has the mojo after his win at iconic Pebble Beach and as long as Scott and Bradley provide sufficient back-up, Boston are worth backing as the underdogs at +110 with bet365.
It should be fun but McIlroy will have his game face on and won’t want to lose for a second time.
