There were four notable results in last week’s LIV Mexico City.
First of all, there was the winner, Joaquin Niemann, for whom it was his fifth victory in 19 LIV starts since the start of 2024.
That makes an intriguing contrast with Jon Rahm who has won twice in his 18 completed starts since January last year - but the Spaniard’s fourth place last week maintained his unbroken stretch of top 10 finishes on the rebel circuit.
That different win rate explains the switch of favoritism this week.
Challenging them at the top of the market is Bryson DeChambeau whose second place last week was his LIV best since he won twice in three starts in late 2023.
The final result of note was Cameron Smith’s fifth which was his first top five finish of 2025.
This week LIV heads to Korea for the first time and it’s a Jack Nicklaus layout which matters because his courses suit some golfers and not others.

Throw in a win in his last start of 2024 and the Chilean has an impressive four wins in his last nine starts worldwide. He’ll want to maintain that form this week but will also have an eye on the PGA Championship because he’s still yet to finish top 10 in a major. He has two top 10 finishes in 10 starts on Nicklaus courses with a best of third at Muirfield Village in 2022. 61.

It will be frustrating the Spaniard that he’s still only won two times on LIV and that he’s yet to do so since September last year. He’ll also be rueful that he could only manage 14th in the Masters - and the result flattered him, too, because he never contended. He has one win at the Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village and it would have been two but for a Covid positive test.

As a man with a fantastic head for heights, Hatton’s top five finish last week n Mexico was no surprise. But he’ll be frustrated that he didn’t contend as he might have. It would also be something of a surprise if he won this week because in eight starts on Nicklaus courses he has only one top 20 and that was 12th at Muirfield Village in 2023.

One name was missing in our look at the favorites above - our first selection Bryson DeChambeau.
He’s been mighty close in recent weeks to a first victory in 2025 and there are good reasons to believe he can convert this week.
He was the pre-final round leader three starts ago at LIV Miami before finishing fifth.
He played in the final group in the final round of the Masters, again finishing fifth.
Last week he was the first and second round leader before ending the week second.
He was a winner at the Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village in 2018 and second at another of his courses, Valhalla, in last year’s PGA Championship.
He’s the pick of the favorites at +650 with bet365.

The Aussie Lucas Herbert flew home on a wet sail last week with a brilliant 61 for second place in Mexico.
It was his best finish on LIV so far and this week represents a good opportunity for him to land a first win.
That’s because he’s a two-time winner on Nicklaus layouts.
The first came at Mount Juliet in the 2021 Irish Open and the second was the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship at Ishioka in Japan.
He’s also been second on the Nicklaus-created Heritage in Australia.
Back him each-way with Caesars Sportsbook at +2000.

South Africa’s Dean Burmester has significant experience on Nicklaus tracks - and he’s enjoyed playing them, too.
In South Africa, he’s won and finished seventh at St Francis Links, been second at Steyn City, and third at Serengeti.
In England, he’s been sixth at Hanbury Manor.
And he was 12th at Valhalla in last year’s PGA Championship.
In all, he has five top 10s from 10 Nicklaus starts - and that 12th last year was against a much stronger field than this week.
We’ll back him to rack up another top 10 at +188 with bet365.
