Fnatic are favorites for this match. They’ve already beaten Team Heretics this season and are currently the second-best team in the league. Team Heretics have done well to get themselves into a position to enter round 2 of the playoffs, but they aren’t in the same league as this Fnatic team.
Both of these teams entered this season after a poor spring campaign, but look like different beasts now. Fnatic have had the biggest scalp so far by knocking out defending champions MAD Lions. Team Heretics have held their own by going past SK Gaming and KOI, but they haven’t been as impressive as Fnatic.
Both teams are in good form and have different styles: Fnatic have the individual quality of Noah to pull them out of trouble, and Team Heretics have two superstars in Vetheo and Flakked to call upon. Fnatic are favorites for this match, but there is good value in picking them. This is the ideal scenario, so picking them makes a lot of sense. Fnatic look all set for a clash against XL in the next round of the playoffs.
Team Heretics have had a fantastic season by their standards. They qualified for the group stages with five wins and four losses in the league. In the spring season, they managed just three wins in the league. They weren’t expected to go much further but comfortably dispatched KOI and SK Gaming in the group stages.
They fully deserve to be in the playoff and are now one of the four teams still left in the competition. This is a glorious opportunity for them to do something memorable, but it’ll not be easy. When they faced Fnatic earlier in the season, they were no match for them. Unlike Fnatic, they don't have anything to lose, but they must back themselves because opportunities like this don’t come along too often.
The additions of Vetheo and Flakked in the summer have completely changed the squad. The two players have averaged over 4.5 kills per game since joining the team, which is quite remarkable. Unlike Fnatic, they rely on more than one player to take the game to the opposition. There aren’t many teams in the league besides league leader G2 Esports, who are already in the final, that can say this about themselves.
Watching how Fnatic attempt to neutralize the two players will be fascinating. Fnatic managed this quite successfully in the league because so much of Team Heretics’ attention was drawn toward Noah, so it’ll be interesting to see if Team Heretics will take a more aggressive stance this time. Despite their relative success, Team Heretics haven’t been as consistent as Fnatic this season, which is why we can’t give them the nod for this match.
Fnatic finished the league season in second place and knocked MAD Lions and SK Gaming in the group stages: it feels like normal service has resumed. Fnatic had some tough months before this season, but they are title contenders again. Sports and esports fans have short memories, so there’s a strong likelihood that most LEC fans will treat the difficult period for Fnatic before this season as a little blip, but it didn’t feel like that when they were going through the motions a few months back.
There was some uncertainty at the start of the same season after they had won two of their first three games as well, but it’s clear after those nine games that Fnatic are their usual selves again. They won seven of their nine games, and one of the two losses came against league leaders G2 Esports. They lost their last league match in the league to SK Gaming but evened things out by knocking them out of the competition in the group stages.
They were making the right noises towards the end of last season, but they only came good after adding bot laner Noah last month. He has been incredible since arriving at Fnatic. He has averaged 5 kills per game, 0.93 deaths per game, and 5.93 assists per game. There aren’t many players in the league who look in better form.
He’s aggressive, elusive, and an excellent teammate. The recruitment team at Fnatic also deserves a lot of credit for getting Noah on board because he has changed the team completely. He has been ably supported by Rekkles, who has averaged 3.88 kills per game, 2.04 deaths per game, and 4.63 assists per game.
Fnatic will be too strong for Team Heretics in this game. Heretics, like Fnatic, have improved greatly since last season, but there’s a difference in the measure of improvement, and so much of that boils down to the quality of Noah.
