Oddsmakers have the contest dead even, with equal odds for both teams. However, it would seem that Team Liquid has a slight edge as they have one additional win in the tournament. This is further bolstered by the fact that Team Liquid already beat 100 Thieves a little over a fortnight ago.
Since their opening game against FlyQuest, 100 Thieves have been on a skid, losing four in a row before putting together a brief recovery to win three out of their four next games.
Team Liquid saw success early in the split, winning five in a row before losing the next four of five matches. One of those early wins came against 100 Thieves, putting them in a strong position to take home the win in their second match together.

The upcoming match between Team Liquid and 100 Thieves will be the second meeting between the two teams in this leg of the LCS. In their last group stage match, Team Liquid emerged on top. However, both teams are on a relatively even playing field, with a mixed bag of results across this stage of the tournament.
Team Liquid had a great run in 2021 and 2022, placing second in the Spring and Summer splits of 2021 and coming in 3rd and 4th in the Spring and Summer splits of 2022, respectively. Their gradual skid in form continues, as they were only able to manage a final result of 8th in the Spring split of 2023, after losing out in the group stage of the tournament.
On the other hand, 100 Thieves has closely followed Team Liquid through the highest ranks of competitive LCS, beating them to first place in the Summer split of 2021. However, 100 Thieves had a better run in 2022 compared to their rivals by finishing in second place in both splits of the year. The trend of both teams being evenly matched in competition has continued into 2023 since 100 Thieves placed higher than Team Liquid in the Spring split but also lost to them in the group stages of the current (summer) split.
This well-balanced back-and-forth of narrow victories between the two teams makes it challenging to pick a team to take the lead in the current split. However, based on the overall aggregate of results in the group stages, Team Liquid is in a better position to pull ahead by racking up a more consistent number of wins as the tournament advances.
Team Liquid’s eighth-place finish in the Spring split of 2023 is their worst showing in the LCS since placing 9th three years ago. If history provides any indication of things to come, it’s important to note that Team Liquid mounted a solid effort to improve their results since the last time they crashed out of the group stage.
After finishing 9th in LCS Spring 2020, Team Liquid finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the following LCS seasons before finishing 8th again. Going by this pattern, it’s likely that Team Liquid will bounce back and put in some strong performances in the current split against long-time rivals 100 Thieves.
Recently, Team Liquid has seen a handful of roster changes in the last few months, with veteran Marin leaving and Reignover getting promoted to Head Coach. Leading the effort for Team Liquid is Summit, who joined in December 2022. With a win rate of 50% in the current split of the LCS, he has been setting the benchmark of performance for his teammates. He will be a player to watch as he goes up against a team he does not have much experience against in 100 Thieves.
This particular match between Team Liquid and 100 Thieves is crucial to both teams due to 100 Thieves losing the first match of this particular pairing in the split. To secure their chances of advancing in the tournament and to set a precedent should they face off again, 100 Thieves need to secure a win against Team Liquid.
Sportsbooks give both teams an equal chance of winning. However, based on the results of their last match and on the total number of wins held by each team in the group stage, 100 Thieves face an uphill battle to swing the momentum in their favor.
100 Thieves is bolstered by the presence of top laner Ssumday, who has consistently put in several strong performances for the team. The Korean player made his LCS debut with 100 Thieves in 2021 and has yet to finish lower than second place. In the current split, he has a win rate of 50%, dealing 378 damage per minute, and kill participation of 50%. He is joined by long-time 100 Thieves player Closer, a jungler who has been part of the squad since 2018. Notably, Closer played a crucial role in helping 100 Thieves beat Team Liquid in the past to win the LCS for the very first time.
