Pick: EDward Gaming
EDward Gaming will go into this quarterfinal match against HUA MOJ in the 2022 Demacia Cup as massive favorites. The Demacia Cup is an off-season tournament, and EDward Gaming don’t have to go into this sort of encounter with all guns blazing, but they’ll still be expected to put on a dominant display.
EDward Gaming didn’t have the best of starts this year but have ended the season on a high note. In the LPL Spring season, they ended in 7th place in the league before getting knocked out early in the Spring playoffs.
They needed to show some mettle after an average display at best in the Spring. They shook up their roster by adding some new coaches and supervisors, which seems to have worked. They finished the LPL Summer season in 5th place in the league before ending the Summer playoffs in third place. This was a massive improvement, which has been followed by 1st place in the LPL 2022 Regional Finals and NEST.
They also ended in the fifth-eighth place bracket in the Worlds 2022, which is a respectable position. They’ve stuck with the same line-up for most of the year, which has helped the team build some chemistry as the year has progressed. Five of their players have racked up over 100 games this year, which is a significant advantage to have when playing against a less experienced opponent.
Scout, the mid laner, and Viper, the bot laner, have been the star players for EDward Gaming in 2022. They have both played 119 games this year and managed KDA ratios over 5.
Scout has averaged 3.5 kills, 1.86 deaths, 5.87 assists, and a KDA ratio of 5.04 per game this year. Viper has averaged 4.71 kills, 1.73 deaths, 5.22 assists, and a KDA ratio of 5.74 per game this year. They’ve been assisted by Meiko, Flandre, and JieJie for most of the year. Meiko and JieJie have been tremendous assisters this year, with the former averaging 8.99 assists per game and the latter averaging 7.03 assists per game.
They’ll be looking to use the 2022 Demacia Cup as a springboard for success next season. They can’t afford to plateau after making so much progress this season. When teams are fighting at the higher end, they can’t afford to lose to the likes of Huya MOJ.
No one is expecting MOJ to deliver a miracle on Friday. MOJ are an amateur team hoping to showcase some of their talent against one of LPL’s finest teams. If they can stop EDward Gaming from playing their natural game and manage to stretch the game deep, that’ll be a pretty remarkable achievement in itself.
They’ve been one of the most impressive teams from Stage 3, winning four of their five games so far. This is also a great chance for some of their amateur players to showcase their skills and catch the eye of scouts. MOJ should not waste this opportunity. They’re not likely to win this match and should be on the end of a hammering, but if they can avoid the latter, it’ll be a pretty positive outcome.
Pick: JD Gaming
There isn’t a lot between the two sides as far as odds are concerned, but recent history suggests that JD Gaming have the upper hand. JD Gaming are the No. 1 LPL team as things stand, which should tell readers everything they need to know about them.
There’s no hiding from the fact that ThunderTalk Gaming (TT Gaming) have underwhelmed all season. Beating a side like JD gaming will be a massive boost heading into next year, but they’ll have to do a lot better than they have in 2022 to get a positive outcome in this match.
Their LPL Spring and Summer displays were hardly worth recalling. They finished in 17th place in the LPL Summer season and made a slight improvement by finishing in 12th place in the Summer season. They didn’t make it to the playoffs in either season, which was the expectation heading into 2022.
Their performances, however, have been improving gradually. They finished NEST 2022 in fifth to eighth place, which is another improvement. One way to subside the disappointment of 2022 is to beat a big side like JD Gaming at the end of the year. JD Gaming are unlikely to be at their very best, so this is a great opportunity to gain some confidence.
The Demacia Cup isn’t the most prestigious trophy for LPL sides, but it’s a trophy nonetheless. JD Gaming have had a solid 2022 and will be expected to beat TT Gaming when the two face off on Saturday.
Their start to the year wasn’t perfect. They finished the LPL Spring in fourth place before getting a respectable third-place finish in the Spring playoffs. The objective for the LPL Summer season was clear: to finish in the top two.
They ended the LPL Summer season in 2nd place before winning the LPL Summer playoffs. With one of their main goals for the season complete, they only had the Worlds to conquer. They put up a good fight in the Worlds 2022 but ultimately fell just short of the top. They finished in 3rd/4th place.
Since the Worlds, they’ve played NEST 2022, where they finished 9th-14th. With most of the major tournaments done, they’ll have one eye on next year, but winning this match and this tournament would be the perfect way to cap off this year and attack the next one. They should come out on top in this match.
