A competition that started on 17 April and has been an innovative method of giving us some live sport to watch during the Covid-19 lockdown comes to an end with the Championship Group Final on Friday. The PDC Home Tour event is down to the final four. This final retains the best of 11 leg format, so it is first to six.

The four men to make the final are Nathan Aspinall, Gary Anderson, Jonny Clayton, and Jelle Klaasen. All four have earned their right to step up to their living room oche with some stellar home darts. It promises to be a very exciting final.

Nathan Aspinall Carries Our Cash Into The Final

We tipped up Nathan Aspinall to lift the trophy ahead of the second stage at +500 and the man playing out of Stockport is still standing and has every chance of delivering on Friday evening. Unfortunately, our other title tip Dave Chisnall faltered in the last round, but if you have followed our betting tips over the last fortnight we’ve had 17 bets and 12 winners. If we assume a flat 10 unit stake on each tip, we have staked 170 units and returned 346.9, and still have Aspinall running for us. It’s now time to enjoy the final and hopefully find some winning bets to finish on a high.

The Asp is now favorite to lift the trophy but this has not been a tournament that has always gone to that script, If you have Aspinall to win the Home Event, now is the time to guarantee yourself a profit by covering that bet. But the world No. 7 has every chance after coming up trumps after winning all six matches in the first two rounds and then coming through last night’s second semi-final. The 28-year-old beat Jonny Clayton 6-5, lost 6-5 to Rob Cross, and then ensured his progression with a 6-5 win over Joe Cullen. He was made to work for it but averaged 102.94 across the three matches and is match sharp.

Aspinall has played Gary Anderson three times and won twice, is 2-2 with Jonny Clayton, and 3-1 up in encounters with Jelle Klaasen. He remains the tip to lift the trophy.

Gary Anderson – Online and Firing

Two-time world champion Gary Anderson mended his WiFi to join the first round field on Night 30 and has won all nine of his Home Event matches. The 49-year-old, playing out of his Somerset home, then qualified for the final with wins over Mike De Decker, Dave Chisnall and Jelle Klaasen as he averaged 94.78 on Wednesday.

The world No. 9 Scotsman leads Jelle Klaasen 14-7 on their head-to-heads and Jonny Clayton 7-1. He is certainly Aspinall’s biggest threat and has the experience and pedigree to shine on Friday night.

Jonny Clayton and Jelle Klaasen Have Shown They Don’t Roll Over

Jonny Clayton was the last man to book his Last 8 berth as he followed three wins on Night 8 with another unbeaten second-stage display. The world No. 15 from Llanelli in South Wales is enjoying this Home Event as he topped the second semi-final group table with two wins (6-5 over Joe Cullen and 6-1 against Rob Cross) after a 6-5 defeat to Aspinall.

The 45-year-old was a finalist in the 2017 Players Championship Finals and won the PDC Austrian Darts Open in 2018. He defied the bookies’ prices in the last round and will be hoping to again. He leads Klaasen 2-1 on previous matches played but we may have seen the best of him already.

World 48th ranked Klaasen crept through on leg difference on Night 7 after losing one match. The 2006 BDO world champion lost his opening second stage game 6-5 to Cristo Reyes but hit back with wins against Ryan Murray 6-4 and a 6-1 thumping of group favourite Peter Wright to once again progress on leg difference. He then beat Dave Chisnall and Mike De Decker before losing his third semi-final match to Anderson. Klaasen is the outsider and the enigma of this final – beatable but capable of winning against anyone. The format and the fact that all four players are in fine fettle makes this Championship Final a belter.
