The head-to-head record between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad is neck-and-neck. Hyderabad have got the better of Mumbai on eight occasions, while Mumbai have emerged victoriously against the Orange Army nine times. Recent records and current form, however, are both in Mumbai’s favor. Mumbai have won four of their last five matches against Hyderabad, and given their convincing display against Rajasthan, they are the favorites for this match.

A defeat against Delhi Capitals in their second-last match jeopardized Mumbai Indians’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs of IPL 2021. Rohit Sharma & Co. needed to win their last match against Rajasthan Royals, and to add to their troubles, they had to ensure a big margin of victory, so as to close down the net run rate gap with Kolkata Knight Riders.
But as they have done countless times in the previous editions, Mumbai Indians were seen at their very best when they had their backs to the ball. With an 8-wicket win, they are now right back in the playoffs contention. At the time of writing, they were placed at the fifth position. While they will need to win their last league stage match against Hyderabad, the result of Kolkata’s match against Rajasthan will determine the margin they will be chasing. As for Kane Williamson’s men, they will finish at the last place irrespective of the outcome of this match, but would still want to sign off with a win.
Hyderabad have done a lot of chopping and changing in this season of the Indian Premier League, and their current XI seems to be the best that they can field from the current squad. But if they still want to make changes, Manish Pandey can be included in place of Abhishek Sharma. The latter is hardly getting a chance to bowl, while the plan to use him as an opener did not work in the last match against Bangalore.
Mumbai have never been a team that changes team combination every now and then, but desperate times called for desperate measures in the last match against Rajasthan, which saw two of Mumbai’s key players in Krunal Pandya and Quinton de Kock getting dropped from the playing XI. The players who replaced them, Ishan Kishan and James Neesham, both had fantastic outings. As a result, Mumbai are likely to field an unchanged XI.
Rohit Sharma: This is not the first occasion where Mumbai Indians find themselves in a spot of bother. They have been in this situation before, and time and again, their captain Rohit Sharma saved the day for them. He is Mumbai’s highest run-scorer in this season, with 363 runs in 12 matches.
Jasprit Bumrah: In what has come as a comforting piece of news for both Mumbai Indians and Indian fans, Jasprit Bumrah is getting back to his best on the surfaces here in UAE, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The 27-year-old is Mumbai’s highest wicket-taker with 19 wickets in 13 matches. In his last five matches, he has picked up 11 wickets.
