India holds the upper hand in terms of head-to-head records. They have won 11 of the 18 T20I meetings against West Indies, while the boys from the Caribbean have emerged victoriously on six occasions. One match did not produce a result. With the conditions and current form also favoring the hosts, India will be the favorites to win this match.

Ever since the two heartbreaking defeats against New Zealand and Pakistan in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, India have done really well in the shortest format of the game. They started the three-match T20I series against West Indies with a 6-wicket win, which happens to be the men in blue’s seventh consecutive triumph in this format of the game.
Having won the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma asked the visitors to bat first. The Caribbean boys lost opener Brandon King in the very first over, but Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran set up a good partnership to get their team back in the game. Young spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked up two wickets in the same over to get India in the driver’s seat once again, but Kieron Pollard’s late fireworks helped the Windies put up a decent total of 157/7.
India went off to a flying start in the run chase, courtesy of Sharma’s spectacular knock. However, Roston Chase kept the game in balance by dismissing the skipper and Ishan Kishan in quick succession, while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant could not last long either. Just as when it seemed the visitors have done enough to secure a win, Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer’s brilliant partnership secured a 6-wicket triumph for the hosts.
The Indian team management could field an unchanged playing XI for this match after winning the first game, but it will also not be a bad move to make a couple of tweaks. Talented opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad could be given a chance at the expense of Ishan Kishan, who played a painfully slow inning in the last match. Besides that, Shardul Thakur could be included in the team, dropping Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the bench.
As for West Indies’ team combination, we can expect three changes. Brandon King, who failed to impress in the ODI series, had another poor game in the first T20I as he scored only four runs. He could be replaced by Shai Hope, while Rovman Powell might be sacrificed for Jason Holder if the latter recovers from his injury in time. Akeal Hosein also had a poor outing in the first match as he conceded 34 runs in his four overs without picking up any wicket. He might have to make way for Hayden Walsh Jr.
Rohit Sharma: The newly-appointed Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma had a fantastic outing in the first T20I. With Ishan Kishan struggling to get going at the other end, it was of immense importance that Sharma maintained a consistent flow of runs and he did just that. The 34-year-old scored 40 runs in the nineteen deliveries that he faced, hitting four fours and three maximums in the process. Sharma has played 120 T20I matches for the men in blue, in which he has scored 3237 runs at an average of 33.37 and a strike rate of 140.86.
Nicholas Pooran: Four days after securing a million-dollar deal from Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, Nicholas Pooran proved why he is considered as one of the most explosive batters in the shortest format of the game. He scored 61 runs in 43 deliveries, which included four fours and five sixes as well. In his T20I career for West Indies, he has scored 1070 runs in 55 matches at an average of 26.09 and a strike rate of 127.83.
