Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers are set to battle for the second time straight when they meet in match no. 37 of the Big Bash League 2022-23. Having been defeated in the away game, Brisbane Heat will host this game at the Gabba on Wednesday, January 11th.
Brisbane Heat are reeling at seventh place on the points table with five points. They have played eight games, winning just two and losing five while one match ended in no result. Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, are second with 12 points. They have won six matches and lost only two.
These two teams faced each other on Saturday at Optus stadium, where Perth Scorchers came out victorious by seven wickets. Batting first, the Heat got off to a great start with Colin Munro and Josh Brown blasting 81 in just 7.3 overs. Brown smashed 34 off 21 while Munro scored 45 off 26.
Matt Kelly (2 for 28) and Andrew Tye (3 for 37) starred with the ball as the Scorchers pulled things back and restricted Brisbane to 171/9. Chasing the target, Perth lost Stephen Eskinazi in the second over before Cameron Bancroft and Aaron Hardie took the game away from the Heat.
The pair added 111 runs for the second wicket in just 10.5 overs before Hardie was run out for 33-ball 57. Bancroft remained unbeaten on 76 off 48 deliveries whereas captain Ashton Turner smashed 23* in 12 to complete the chase with 21 balls to spare.
Brisbane Heat won't have the services of Colin Munro and Sam Billings, both of whom are off to the ILT20. They will welcome the Aussie stars Usman Khawaja, Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne, who return from Test duties. Expect the trip to start in the playing XI straightaway, joining Josh Brown, who has been superb at the top of the order. In the bowling attack, they will rely heavily on the pace duo of Michael Neser and Mark Steketee while Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson handle spin department.
Perth Scorchers are without Faf du Plessis and Adam Lyth after the pair left for other commitments. But that hasn't affected their batting unit much with Cameron Bancroft finding form immediately. The likes of Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie and Ashton Turner have been in magnificent touch as well. Ashton Agar returns from Test duties and is likely to replace Cooper Connolly. Losing Jhye Richardson to injury was a huge blow but they still have a strong pace attack comprising Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, Matt Kelly and Lance Morris.
Josh Inglis is the top run-getter for the Scorchers in the ongoing season, making an impact on a consistent basis. He is coming off a couple of low scores but remains a key player. Inglis has scored 246 runs from eight innings at an average of 35 while striking at 152. Inglis has registered two fifties in the competition.
Josh Brown has been very impressive in his first BBL season and coming in with no experience in senior men's cricket. Brown blasted 62 off just 23 versus Sydney Sixers and made 34 off 21 against the Scorchers in the previous game. Brown will be a key for Brisbane on a good batting surface at the Gabba.
