Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers have crossed paths only once previously. In that match, the Phoenix emerged victorious, handing the Superchargers a comprehensive 8-wicket defeat. With the current form favouring them as well.

Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers will clash horns in Match 19 of The Hundred’s Men’s competition on Friday, 19th August. The match will be played at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The hosts have had a pretty decent start to their campaign. Moeen Ali’s boys lost their first match against Trent Rockets by six wickets, but they have not had to look back ever since. In their previous three matches, the Phoenix have defeated Southern Brave, Welsh Fire and also avenged the first defeat against Trent Rockets. With six points in their bag, Birmingham are placed in the third position in the standings and will now aim for an entry in the top two.
On the contrary, Northern Superchargers have had the exact opposite season. They won their first match against Manchester United, but everything has gone downhill for them ever since. In their previous three outings, they suffered defeats against Trent Rockets, Oval Invincibles and London Spirit. The string of losses has seen Faf du Plessis’ team slip down to the sixth position in the standings, and with the top four having already created a cushion, the immediate target for the Superchargers should be to overtake Manchester Originals and occupy fifth place.
From Birmingham Phoenix’s perspective, there is no reason to make any changes to a team that seems to have gelled well and are doing a commendable job. In the last match against Trent Rockets, Henry Brookes and Will Smeed were the only two players who failed to perform. Brookes could not pick up any wicket while Smeed scored only one run. Having said that, it should be noted that both of them have impressed in the previous matches, which might help them retain their place in the playing XI.
As for the Northern Superchargers, they will be looking to make tweaks to their team but they are not particularly spoiled for choices. Craig Miles could not pick up wickets in the last match against London Spirit and he has had a pretty disappointing outing so far. Hence, he could be replaced by 27-year-old pacer Brydon Carse, who has already played nine ODI matches for England.
Liam Livingstone: Coming into the competition, many expected Liam Livingstone to be the star in the Birmingham Phoenix set-up, and he has been exactly that in the matches so far. The power-hitter has smashed 123 runs in 83 deliveries, maintaining an average of 41.00 and a strike rate of 148.19. In the last match against Trent Rockets, Livingstone brought up his first half-century of this year’s The Hundred, while he had previously played an equally impressive knock of 47 runs against the very same opposition.
Adam Lyth: Faf du Plessis’ team has not had many impressive performers, with the skipper himself failing to prove his mettle with the bat. In what has otherwise been an underwhelming batting department, Adam Lyth has emerged as a much-needed exception. He has scored 130 runs at an average of 32.50 and a strike rate of 196.96. The 34-year-old veteran has already smashed a couple of half-centuries in this competition – against Manchester Originals and Oval Invincibles.
