The 2024/25 Bundesliga season began on August 23 and will run until May 17. Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen are among the contenders to win the title, but there are plenty of other things to look out for.
One of those is the race to finish as top scorer. Harry Kane stormed to the prize last time out and is widely expected to do so again. Can the Englishman be stopped?

Bayern Munich are scoring goals for fun and Harry Kane is leading from the front. Vincent Kompany’s side have made the net bulge 42 times in their first 14 games, with the England international directly responsible for a third of the goals his team have scored.
Kane enjoyed a magnificent debut campaign in the Bundesliga in 2023/24 and he recently set another record, becoming the fastest player to 50 goals in Germany’s top flight. Kane is the strong favorite to finish as this year’s top scorer.
With 13 goals to his name, Omar Marmoush of Eintracht Frankfurt is behind only Harry Kane in the scoring charts. It has been a hugely impressive start to the season for Marmoush, whose Frankfurt side are flying high in third place.
It remains to be seen whether they and he can keep this up, but Marmoush is free from expectation. If Harry Kane were to suffer a serious injury at some point, the Frankfurt frontman is in a strong position to overtake him. Do not rule Marmoush out.
Serhou Guirassy’s exploits for Stuttgart last term earned him a summer switch to Borussia Dortmund. He missed the start of the campaign through injury and is now desperate to make up for lost time for Nuri Sahin’s side, whose season has been plagued by inconsistency up to now.
There is no doubting his quality, but Guirassy is in danger of falling too far adrift of top spot before the winter break. The Guinea international has scored just six times in 2024/25, which means Harry Kane and Omar Marmoush have been more than twice as productive.
Tim Kleindienst has emerged as another surprise contender in this market. The Wolfsburg attacker is now the fourth-favorite for the award, behind only Harry Kane, Omar Marmoush and Serhou Guirassy according to the sportsbooks.
Kleindienst is up to nine goals for the campaign. Wolfsburg are only 10th in the table but they play an offensive brand of soccer under Ralph Hasenhuttl, whose offense-minded style suits Kleindienst down to the ground.
Bayer Leverkusen’s surprise title success last season was a collective effort, but Florian Wirtz was probably their star man. Leverkusen fans were therefore delighted when the Germany international decided to stay put over the summer.
Wirtz remains as vital to the cause as ever at the BayArena. Leverkusen have won four games in a row and their attacking midfielder is one of the first names on the team sheet. He found the net as Leverkusen beat Augsburg last time out.

Who Has Finished as the Bundesliga Top Scorer Most?
Gerd Muller and Robert Lewandowski have both finished as the Bundesliga's top goalscorer seven times. As you can see from the table above, Lewandowski finished as the division’s chief goal-getter in all but two of the last nine campaigns - once with Borussia Dortmund, and on six occasions with Bayern Munich.
Muller spent his entire Bundesliga career with Bayern. His top scorer awards came between 1966/67 and 1977/78, although he shared the prize twice. Muller is also the leading Bundesliga goalscorer of all time.
What Does the Bundesliga Top Goalscorer Receive?
The Bundesliga top scorer receives a trophy called the ‘Kicker-Torjagerkanone’, which translates as the ‘top scorer cannon’. The prize has been sponsored by Kicker, a respected German soccer magazine, since 1966.
When Is the Bundesliga Top Scorer Announced?
The Bundesliga's top goalscorer is simply the player who has scored the most goals over the course of the season.
The winner is only confirmed after each team has played all 34 of its games, although the top scorer can often be predicted a few matches before the end of the season if the player in first place has built up a significant lead. Nothing is official, though, until the campaign has been completed.
