Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou will make his professional boxing debut on October 28, taking on the WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a sanctioned, non-title, ten-round main event spectacle in Saudi Arabia to kick off the Riyadh Season.
Originally expected to take on Oleksandr Ursyk for the undisputed title, talks fell through with Fury and Usyk as well as talks for a Fury vs. Joshua match up. This left the door open for Ngannou and now the two superstars will go toe-to-toe for ten-rounds (or less) in what will be considered an official boxing bout.
However, it seems clear to many that Tyson Fury is overlooking the threats posed by the former UFC fighter, as after his fight against Ngannou was announced, Fury soon after signed a contract to fight Usyk this December. Although there is no risk of losing his title to Ngannou, Fury is clearly expecting to come out of the contest physically unscathed.

After a brief retirement from the sport of boxing (very brief), this bout will mark Fury’s second fight since his return. He is coming off a December 2022 win over Derek Chisora.
Ngannou, after being released from the UFC in January, spent time as a free agent before ultimately signing a deal with the PFL, a deal that allowed him to also compete in professional boxing as well as mixed martial arts. This is the first fight of his new PFL contract, as Ngannou hasn’t competed since his unanimous decision win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 in January 2022.
Fury will be the younger, taller and longer fighter in this matchup, leaving Ngannou at physical disadvantages that he rarely faced during his time with the UFC.
Although a spectacle event this will be, Fury’s experience and resume have him listed as an appropriate -1200 favorite to win.
