It’s the fight British boxing fans have been demanding for over a decade, and at the Manchester Arena, England, on Saturday night, they will get their wish. Kell Brook and Amir Khan are two former world champions at light-welterweight and welterweight. Both moved up to middleweight for big money fights and were devastatingly taken out. There’s no doubt we have already seen the best of Brook and Khan, but this is a contest that will draw a global audience.
Below you’ll find the current betting odds available on the fight winner market with quotes taken from the Caesars Sportsbook app. The odds are correct at the time of writing but may change between now and the first bell.
There’s no title on the line in Manchester, and the belief amongst followers of the sport is neither fighter will head back into title contention following this bout. But there’s pride at stake, and with both Special K and King Khan promising to knock the other out and send them into retirement, the scene is set for a memorable night.

This bout has split opinion amongst followers of boxing in the UK, and it’s fair to say a strong case could be made for both gladiators. Yes, their prime is behind them, and this would have made a cracking fight about seven years ago, but Brook and Khan remain talented boxers. The fact neither wants to lose this match and end their careers on a painful defeat will help keep things interesting. This could be one last big payday before the pair move into retirement after being great servants to the sport. Ending on a win, especially in a grudge match, will be the driving force.
Both Brook and Khan suffered horrible defeats at middleweight, and they have struggled to adjust since stepping back down. Brook was demolished by Gennady Golovkin, and Saul Alvarez made light work of Khan. Since those losses at the higher division, there have been convincing defeats to Terence Crawford in the US. The effects of those stoppages remain a concern, but Brook has always been the naturally bigger fighter, having boxed at welterweight and added muscle when up at middleweight. Khan was a light welter who relied on speed and skill to survive in the higher divisions.
Brook is the favourite, and we’re backing him to win by stoppage. Neither man will want to go gung-ho and risk being taken out early or suffering a cut during the opening rounds. We also see a mutual respect when two top-level operators clash, so don’t expect a fast KO. Khan will be dangerous in the opening rounds, whereas Brook will be more successful as the fight goes on. I expect his natural size and power to make the difference in the second half of the bout.
Amir Khan is a fighter blessed with incredible speed and skill. If you were teaching a young person boxing, you’d advise them to watch Khan, especially in the early part of his career. He is exceptionally quick, throws combinations and changes his angles using intelligent footwork. The only thing stopping Khan from being a pound for pound king is his punch resistance. Since being taken out by Breidis Prescott in what was a huge shock at the time, Khan’s chin has always been under scrutiny.
We’ve seen him dominate opponents only to be tagged and go down against the run of play. It’s obvious the boxer himself has lost confidence in his chin and in his defence. Once that’s gone, there’s no getting it back. I expect something like this happens in this bout, with Khan dominating the early rounds, boxing, and moving before Brook’s strength catches up. The best chance for AK on Saturday is to target the damaged eye socket of the favourite with crisp jabs. That’s easier said than done, of course.
There’s no doubt Special K is a naturally bigger fighter, is more experienced and has the lion’s share of power, but he’s not a Golokvin type that marches forward looking to get big shots off. Brook is a skilled southpaw who will hold his own against Khan in the talent department. He will block and parry Khan’s shots from a distance, all the time closing the gap and working his way into striking distance. When he tags Khan with a big shot – which he will do – it’ll be interesting to see how Amir deals with that and how he reacts.
Brook must be patient in this bout, but his experience at the sport’s top-level ensures he already knows this. Khan will get success, and he’ll fire off straight right hands against the southpaw stance. Kell will be forced to swallow a few and hope his battle-weary body and old facial injuries stand up to the test. If they do, he’ll eventually get to Khan and take him out of there.
